New Shanghai Oversize Cargo Facility in Action
Wind turbine blades worth US$3.37 million were recently loaded onto a ship to be exported overseas at the new terminal for outsized cargo at Shanghai's Lingang Industrial Park, reports Xinhua.
This was the first consignment of outsized cargo the terminal has handled since it became operational in August.
According to the China news agency, the terminal, mostly used to handle heavy and outsized machines and equipment, has four 30,000-tonne berths and five 5,000-tonne berths with a 2.51 million tonne capacity. It is equipped with three gantry cranes with arms of 40 metres each, and another with a 28-metre reach. There is also a 230,000-square metre stack yard.
Prior to the opening of the new facility, outsized and heavy lift cargo had to be moved by road transport to other terminals on the lower Yangtze.
