Second Direct Far East Carrier Calls at Port Everglades

China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL), part of the PEXS vessel-sharing consortium, is the second carrier from the Far East to make Broward County’s Port Everglades part of its regular service. PEXS, which includes CSCL, CMA CGM and P&O Nedlloyd is calling on the Port's second multi-user container terminal operator, which is operated by APM Terminals. This month, as part of the PEX service, China Shipping’s container ship Xin Chong Qing, arrived at Port Everglades on its maiden voyage from Shanghai. The Xin Chong Qing, built in Shanghai, has a capacity of 4,053 TEUs (20-foot equivalent units – the standard measurement for containerized cargo). In terms of TEU capacity, it is one of the largest container vessels to have called at Port Everglades. Initially, China Shipping’s cargo activity is anticipated to bring to Port Everglades annually an additional 100,000 tons and 16,000 TEUs. “Port Everglades is benefitting from the Far East’s desire to diversify its service areas,” says Port Director Ken Krauter. “Our marketing efforts are global with a growing emphasis on Asia as well as concentrating on South and Central America and the Caribbean.” The PEXS inbound service rotation of port calls is as follows: Pusan – Shanghai – Xiamen – Yantian -- Hong Kong – Manzanillo -- Port Everglades – Savannah – New York -- Norfolk
