Seatronics Ltd., have recently announced the addition of two new models to their range of ground discrimination systems. Replacing the existing 100 and 200 models the 101 and 201 systems provide a number of internal improvements.
Sales Manager, Hamish Forbes commented:-
“In order to remain a leader in this field we are constantly developing the technology and can now offer an improved product to our customers. Research and development of our products, based on field trials and customer feedback, is an essential process for us”
Hamish went on to say that these changes were the result of work done on their “top of the range” ECHOplus system, primarily designed for the scientific market. It is through work with various scientific institutes that Seatronics have been able to identify a number of improvements in the system and incorporate these into the seascan product range.
Hamish explained that these improvements include the smoothing of internal compensation factors, incorporation of improved algorithms for depth compensation and improved gating methods. What will this mean for the end customer we asked Hamish?
“The effects of these changes will be quite subtle. However, in a direct comparison the user would see improved quality in seafloor characterisation along with smoother data transitions, resulting in greater repeatability as changes in the seabed and depth occurred. These improvements will be most noticeable in shallow water areas”
And what about existing customers? Should they purchase the new product in order to get this enhanced performance?
“If an existing customer with a 100 or 200 system wishes to upgrade to 101 or 201 standard then we can certainly carry this out at a far lower cost than installing a new system”
Hamish further explained that this enhancement, as with any future developments, will be as far as possible, backward compatible, so that all customers, past, present and future can have access to the latest technology at the lowest cost.
