SeaRenergy Receives Order

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

January 7, 2013

SeaRenergy Offshore has been selected by Siemens for the transportation and installation of two HVDC converter platforms for the offshore wind cluster BorWin 2 and HelWin 1 in the North Sea.

The platforms which consist of a base frame and a topside shall be towed from Nordic Yards in Wismar and Warnemünde to the designated sites in the North Sea. SeaRenergy will install the converter platform BorWin 2 about 125 kilometers off the coast, northwest of the island of Borkum, in a water depth of about 40 meters. BorWin 2 will be connected to the wind farms Veja Mate and Global Tech 1, which will have a combined power generating capacity of 800 megawatts (MW). The converter platform HelWin 1 will be installed by SeaRenergy about 85 kilometres off the coast, northwest of the island of Helgoland, in a water depth of about 23 meters. HelWin 1 will be connected to the wind farm Nordsee Ost and Meerwind, which will have a combined power generating capacity of 576 megawatts (MW). The transport and installation of both platforms shall take place in 2013.

With these projects SeaRenergy enters new territory as it is the first time that converter platforms of this type and size will be installed offshore.

“The confidence Siemens has shown in us encourages us in our conviction that SeaRenergy offers the right solutions to the challenges of the offshore wind market”, say the co-founders and managing directors of SeaRenergy Jan B. Steffens and Kurt E. Thomsen.
