Uzmar to Build Escort Tug for Saam Smit Canada
Turkish shipbuilder Uzmar Shipyard has inked a deal with Saam Smit Canada Inc. (SST Canada), a joint venture partnership between Boskalis of the Netherlands and Saam S.A of Chile, for the construction of a new escort tug for operations in British Columbia, Canada. Boskalis, DEME Win South American Dredging Work
A the 50/50 joint venture between Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. and DEME has been awarded a five-year contract for the capital and maintenance dredging of the Martín García channel, located between Uruguay and Argentina in the northern part of the 50-kilometer-wide Rio de la Plata estuary. The contract from the Comision Administradora del Rio de la Plata (CARP) carries a total value of approximately €110 million ($130 million), and signing is expected to take place in the coming weeks.
Former Harkand DSVs Join Boskalis Fleet
Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. has added two 115.4m diving support vessels (DSVs) to its fleet, in line with the company’s plan to expand its subsea services offering. Boskalis said it reached an agreement with the bondholders of the two former Harkand vessels under which it has acquired the DSV Atlantis for approximately $60 million and has signed a three-year bareboat charter for her sister vessel Da Vinci along with a right of first refusal in the event of a sale.

Heerema Marine Contractors said its semi-submersible crane vessel Hermod will retire at the end of this year after nearly 40 years of operational performance. Designed and constructed in the 1970s, Hermod and sister vessel Balder were the first semi-submersible crane vessels of their kind in the offshore construction industry. Boskalis Acquires Subsea Survey Firm Gardline
Netherlands based Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. said it has acquired all shares of the U.K. based Gardline Group, a firm specializing in marine geophysical surveys, offshore geotechnical services and environmental surveys. The consideration paid including assumed debt amounts to approximately £40 million ($51.4 million). Gardline was established in 1969 and was a second-generation family-owned business with principal offices in Great Yarmouth, U.K.
Boskalis, Van Oord JV Awarded Nord Stream 2 Rock Placement LOI
A joint venture between Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. and Van Oord has been awarded a LoI (Letter of Intent) for rock placement services for the Nord Stream 2 project. The award was made by the project developer Nord Stream 2 AG and is a part of the construction of the planned twin 1,200 kilometer gas pipelines running through the Baltic Sea, connecting Russia to Europe. The contract value is approximately EUR 250 million ($285 million), with a 50 percent share for Boskalis.
