DFDS Utilizes KRAL Fuel Consumption Measurement
The United Steamship Company DFDS Seaways (Det Forenede Dampskibs-Selskab) from Denmark, a Northern Europe shipping group, has equipped three of its RO-PAX ships (Dover, Delft and Dunkerque-Seaways) with the fuel consumption measurement from KRAL. RO-PAX ships are combined ferries that transport both passengers and freight. In each ship the consumption of all four main motors, the power generation units and of the two burners are measured.

P&O Installs MPM System Upgrade
P&O Ferries install MPM Hibernation system upgrade. UK ferry operator P&O Ferries has recently taken delivery of Marine Software's MPM Hibernation upgrade for vessels "European Seaway" and "Pride of Dover" after deciding to put these vessels into lay-by. The MPM - Marine Planned Maintenance product was originally installed during a fleet wide software purchase in 2005 for 18 vessels, along with Marine Software's centralised Spare Parts, Procurement package and CODA finance system integration.

Gibdock Completes Work on Spirit of Adventure

Maritime Services Plays Role in Robin Hood Film
For the Ridley Scott movie, Robin Hood, which opened at the Cannes Film Festival, the Dover beaches were recreated at Freshwater West, in Pembrokeshire, Wales. The last 15 minutes of the film is set on the beach with 130 horses doing a full speed gallop charge into 600 actors. Maritime Services International (MSI) was called in to source a suitable vessel that could be converted into a 12th century landing craft for the French invasion fleet.

Incatās new 367.5 ft ferry for LD Lines, the Norman Arrow, currently runs to the United Kingdom from Tasmania. In order to be prepared for the unlikely event of a boarding attempt by pirates, one of two Masters on board, Captain Guy South comments, āWe locked every door and padlocked all the void spaces and access to the cabin was restricted to the port aft door only. Latest Incat Catamaran Acquired by LD Lines
Incat announced the acquisition of its latest 367.5 ft high speed catamaran by Franceās LD Lines. The largest ever fast ferry to operate on the cross channel routes between England and France will enter service between Dover and Boulogne on 29 May 2009. The new fast ferry will be the first-ever freight carrying high speed vessel to operate across the Dover Straits and LD Lines becomes the first-ever French ferry company to operate high speed ferries on the short sea routes from Dover.
Largest Ferry in the English Channel
The production of the first of the two huge ferries ordered by P& O Ferries started on the 3rd of March 2009 by cutting its first steel plate on STX Europeās yard in Rauma, Finland. The roro-passenger ferries to carry freight and cars are scheduled for delivery in 2010 and 2011 for entering into Dover-Calais service. Becoming the largest ferry in the English Channel means a 49,000 GT vessel with the length of 689 ft and having 2,700 lane metres of vehicle space.
