Corvus Energy Powers North America's First LNG-Battery Hybrid Ferry
The 'Seaspan Swift' is the first LNG-battery hybrid cargo ferry in North America. The vessel features two dual-fuel engines and a Corvus lithium ion energy storage system (ESS), which operates as spinning reserve and provides propulsion power for low-speed maneuvers. The cargo ferry will be joined by a sister ship, Seaspan Reliant, in early 2017, after which the operator will order a further three ferries, according to Seaspan CEO Jonathan Whitworth.

The second of Scandlines’ two new hybrid ferries for the Rostock-Gedser route was named M/V Copenhagen during a ceremony at the Danish shipyard FAYARD A/S on October 28, 2016. Arriving at the Farmer’s Market this morning I made the decision to grill some hand cut rib eye with fresh vegetables and potatoes later that evening. I searched several of the local farm kiosks to find the mix I wanted and then reached into my pocket to pay for my choices. Short sea shipping is alive and well on America’s East Coast. In the United States, counties and states directly on the shoreline constitute less than 10 percent of the total land area (not including Alaska), but account for 39 percent of the total population. From 1970 to 2010, the population of these counties increased by almost 40 percent and are projected to increase by an additional 10 million people or 8 percent by 2020. Yidong Terminal Orders Hybrid RTG Cranes
Yidong Terminal has ordered nine additional retrofit hybrid rubber-tired gantry cranes (RTGs) produced by integrator CCCC Shanghai Equipment Engineering (CCCCSEE) for Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry Co. Ltd. (ZPMC), to be installed in Port of Shanghai. This addition will bring the total number of such hybrid cranes to 21 in the Port of Shanghai, spanning three terminals: Yanshan, Waigaoqiao and Yidong – the largest installations of hybrid electric port equipment in the world.
