ABS Wins Petronas FLNG Classification Contract

Maersk Drilling advises that its second new drillship, 'Maersk Valiant', has been delivered from the Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) shipyard in Geoje-Si, South-Korea. Maersk Valiant has begun its voyage towards the US Gulf of Mexico via Singapore to commence a two year contract with ConocoPhillips and Marathon Oil Corporation. Maersk Valiant is the second in a series of four ultra deepwater drillships to enter Maersk Drilling’s fleet.

Maersk Drilling Takes Delivery of First of Four Ultra-Deepwater Drillships
Maersk Drilling informs it has taken delivery of its first ultra deepwater drillship, 'Maersk Viking', from the Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) shipyard in Geoje-Si, South Korea. The new vessel has started its voyage to the US Gulf of Mexico where it will commence a three year contract with ExxonMobil. The owners explain that Maersk Viking is the first in a series of four ultra deepwater drillships to enter Maersk Drilling’s fleet.
Wärtsilä Pumps Chosen for North Sea FSU
Wärtsilä said it signed a contract in late 2013 for a range of pumping solutions for a new Floating Storage Unit (FSU) which will operate on the Mariner oilfield in the North Sea. Wärtsilä's contract was signed with Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) which will build the FSU in South Korea on behalf of Statoil, the Norway based international energy company. Delivery of the Wärtsilä equipment is scheduled for spring 2015, and the FSU is expected to be in operation in 2017.
Pacific Drilling Releases Fleet Status Report & Revenue Guidance
Pacific Drilling says that the latest in its fleet of 5 of new ultra-deepwater drillships is in service. Two additional drillships are under construction at Samsung Heavy Industries for delivery in 2014, and an eighth rig is under construction for delivery in March 2015. Pacific Drilling is a fast growing company that says it is committed to becoming the industry’s preferred ultra-deepwater drilling contractor.
Maersk Drilling Name Two New Ultra-Deepwater Drillships
Maersk Drilling say that their second and third ultra-deepwater drillships have been named in a ceremony held at the Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) shipyard in Geoje-Si, South Korea. Lisa Lance, wife of Ryan M. Lance, chairman and chief executive officer, ConocoPhillips had the honour of naming Maersk Valiant, and Annell R. Bay, Vice President Global Exploration, Marathon Oil Corporation of naming Maersk Venturer.
GasLog to Buy Three BG Group LNG Carriers & Charter Back
GasLog Ltd. says it has agreed with Methane Services Ltd. (MSL), an affiliate of BG Group, to purchase 3 LNG carriers from MSL's fleet and to charter those ships back to MSL for 6-year initial terms. MSL also will have options to extend the term of the time charters for 2 of the ships for a period of either 3 or 5 years at its election. The ships to be acquired will be nominated by MSL from an agreed group of six sister ships built in 2006 and 2007.

Korea’s big three shipbuilders are committed to making a fresh start with regard to business ethics in 2014 after getting hit with bribery scandals in 2013, reports the Korea Joong Ang Daily. According to the Korea Joong Ang Daily, Hyundai Heavy Industries, the nation’s largest ship manufacturer, held an “ethics management resolution” event recently at its headquarters in Ulsan during a management strategy seminar.
