USCG Reports: Small Fire, Important Lessons
The U.S. Recently in the North East an 83-ft long passenger ferry which has the capacity to carry 306 persons experienced a small engine room fire. The vessel was just off its dock at the time the fire started and onboard were 110 persons. Because of the nearness to the dock, the vessel’s Captain chose to disembark the passengers prior to manually activating the engine room CO2 system and closing the main fuel stop valve.

McClendon Family Celebrates 50 Years
Zach McClendon, Jr. of Monticello, Ark. will celebrate being in the boat building business for 50 consecutive years this September. McClendon, along with his father, Zach McClendon, Sr. and another local businessman, Norris Judkins started MonArk Boat Company in May of 1958 building small aluminum jon boats using a shear and break press provided by Judkins. The company incorporated the next year, in August of 1959.

German Ship Released by Pirates
Having been held hostage for four months, Hansa Stavanger is now underway to a safe port accompanied by two EU NAVFOR frigates of the German Navy operating in the area in support of the EU-lead Anti Piracy Operation Atalanta.
