Trans-Alaska Pipeline, Crowley Workers Reach 10 Million Hours
The Trans-Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS) has announced that its workforce has achieved a major safety milestone: 10 million hours worked without an OSHA Day Away From Work Case (DAFWC). Of those hours, Crowley contributed towards working 20 percent of them, or 2 million hours, safely. This means that since June 2009, no TAPS worker, including the more than 225 Crowley employees, has been injured to the extent that they missed a day of work.
Shipping Disruptions: Japan Battles Back
Japan is waging a public relations war as it struggles to control the nuclear contamination threat at home while playing down the concerns of consumers abroad. Fears of tainted goods from the battered nation are affecting trade flows, with regional weather distributing radiation particles and hysteria across Asia. In South Korea, panic over radioactive rain in March saw schools shut down en masse, despite the minute level of radiation posing no known health risks.

Does the Container Sector Need to go back to School?
Drewry’s quarterly Container Forecaster focuses on early 2011 and how the scene is being set for what looks like another boisterous year for the sector. What, if any, lessons have been learnt? London, UK, 13th April 2011 -The basic education of school-children used to revolve around the Three R’s of reading, writing and arithmetic. It seems that the container syllabus is currently following a similar mantra. The 3 R’s of Containerisation = rates, reductions, recklessness.
