Jail Sentence of 'Rena' Officers Applauded by MNZ
MNZ laid six charges against the Master, Mauro Balomaga, and five charges against the Second Officer, Leonil Relon, following the grounding. Both men pleaded guilty to all charges against them.The two men were each sentenced to seven months imprisonment. The Director of MNZ, Keith Manch, said the two senior officers, who were responsible for the navigation of the ship, had breached basic principles of safe navigation.
Fire Aboard Submarine in U.S. Shipyard
According ot CNN the fire was not out six hours after the initial response, six people had been injured, there were no weapons on board, and the nuclear reactor was not affected. Six people sustained injuries and subsequently received treatment either on the scene or at "a local medical facility", said Captain Bryant Fuller, Shipyard Commander for Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery. "While the fire is not out, the situation is improving," he said at 11:45 p.m., Wednesday, Eastern time.

North Sea Gas Leak â Total Oil's Update
The 'West Phoenix' drilling rig has positioned itself about 30 metres away from the Elgin complex ready to support the operation to quell the gas leak, which should start very soon. Before moving alongside Elgin, the 'West Phoenix' had been on standby getting ready. Fishing Boat Fire in Antarctic Killed Three
Fire on board S. A major rescue effort was launched in the Ross Sea in early January when the 51 metre Korean fishing vessel Jeong Woo 2 caught fire. It was the second major incident in Antarctic waters in as many months and involved several Korean fishing vessels, a United States research vessel and a United States Air Force (USAF) aircraft. Jeong Woo 2âs distress call was picked up by another Korean fishing vessel, Hong Jin 707.
Anti-Piracy and the Use of Force
The recent incident involving the MV Enrica Lexie off the coast of India highlights the increasing carriage on merchant vessels of armed security guards (whether military personnel or private contractors) to ward off attacks by pirates and robbers. I will not speculate as to what may have occurred on board the tanker or on the fishing vessel where two individuals unfortunately lost their lives. Suffice it to say that this is a tragic incident for all involved.

Turnover for 2011 was up to 249 million Euros (+21 per cent) and EBITDA 41 million Euros. Hydrex Repairs Save Time
Hydrex diver/technicians carried out three separate repairs on a 118-meter general cargo vessel while the ship was at anchorage off the coast of Port Gentil, Gabon. These on-site repairs allowed the customer to save precious time and money. The entire operation was supervised and coordinated by the Hydrex team leader from inside a monitoring station. A detailed inspection of both the outside and inside of the bulbous bow revealed that the entire area had been damaged.
