The U.S. Coast Guard suspended its search for an Indian tanker crewman, Ram Mohan Singh, reported missing from the 598-foot crude oil tanker Rainbow Quest near Southwest Pass, Wednesday.

Antarctic Ice-bound Ships Moving: US Rescue Mission Icebreaker Stands Down
Both the 'Akademik Shokalskiy' and the 'Xue Long' have managed to break free from heavy ice in Commonwealth Bay, Antarctica, informs the Australian Maritime Safety Authority’s (AMSA) Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC Australia). According to the the U.S. Coast Guard, the Cutter Polar Star was released by AMSA from search and rescue duties after the Coast Guard Pacific Area command center received confirmation that both ships had broken through the heavy ice.
Search Begins for Crewman Missing from Indian Tanker
The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for a an Indian crewman, Ram Mohan Singh, 25, reported missing from a tanker vessel anchored five miles south of Southwest Pass, Tuesday. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report from the 598-foot Rainbow Quest that Singh was missing after an 8 a.m. muster. The Hong Kong-flagged ship conducted sweeps of the vessel with negative results; no life jackets were reported missing.

Michael E. Ford, 75, of Waretown, NJ, passed away on January 4, 2014. Born in Washington, DC and raised in Chevy Chase, Md., he graduated from the #United States Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NY, in 1960 with a degree in Marine Engineering, and earned a master’s degree in International Business from Bernard M. Baruch College, New York, in 1979. He served his country as an officer in the United States Naval Reserve.

Suspect in Ferry Suicide Hoax Arrested in Georgia
A man suspected of faking his own death and costing the Coast Guard more than $173,000 was arrested Tuesday near Brunswick, Ga. Georgia law enforcement authorities say Aubrey Lee Price, 47, was pulled over by police in Brunswick for having illegally tinted windows on his vehicle. Price, who is a former Valdosta, Ga. banker, is also accused of wire and security fraud. Price was reported missing by his family on June 18, 2012. A family member in Georgia reported the missing man to the U.S.
