Crew Rescued from Sinking Bulk Carrier
The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) reported that 24 crewmembers are safe after abandoning ship approximately 440 miles west of Guam Monday. At 8 a.m. Sunday, watchstanders at the USCG Sector Guam Command Center received report of flooding from the 500-foot bulk carrier cargo ship Rich Forest. The ship, carrying logs enroute to China, experienced flooding in the engine room and subsequent loss of propulsion.

Seall Passage Planner Gains AIS Feature
Jargoon announced that a new interface to AIS Hub has been added to their Seall Passage Planner (SPP). The passage planning software which was launched in November 2013, provides Automatic Identification System (AIS) by using the SPP Virtual AIS Radar. Three Crewmen Rescued from Vessel Blaze
Three crewmen have been rescued off Lowestoft this afternoon after their vessel caught fire in the North Sea. Humber Coastguard coordinated the rescue operation after the crew abandoned the ECC Topaz 10 nautical miles east of the town. The vessel had been heading out to service a windfarm when the blaze struck just before 1 p.m. The crew, who were wearing lifejackets, managed to get into a liferaft while they waited to be rescued by the Search and Rescue helicopter from RAF Wattisham.

Irish Coast Guard Upgrades Entire Helicopter Fleet
Minister for Transport, Tourism & Sport Leo Varadkar officially launched the Coast Guard’s new state-of-the-art S92 search and rescue helicopter for the Dublin region in Weston Airport. This is the fourth Sikorsky S92 helicopter base to come into operation for the Coast Guard and means all four Coast Guard bases now have upgraded helicopters.
