Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. today announced that its “MOL Body FIT Exercise” was awarded the “The Best Practice Award of Seafarers Onboard Safety, 2016 MLIT” from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT). The award honors initiatives by shipowners and other concerned parties to prevent work-related injuries among mariners serving on Japanese merchant ships.

In its efforts to promote safe operation, MOL not only invests in safety-related equipment and facilities, but also has actively encouraged adoption of the “MOL Body FIT Exercise” program as a daily routine since 2014, with the goal of reducing the incidence of onboard injuries.

The “MOL Body FIT Exercise” program includes calisthenics based on stretching and also develops muscle strength especially in the trunk and leg muscles, while improving the mariners’ sense of balance. The program has proven effective in reducing the risk of falls and other accidents.

The MOL Group continually strives to further reduce injuries among its seagoing workforce, and the MLIT award will serve as a major incentive toward achieving its goal of “Four Zeroes” – zero serious marine accidents, zero oil pollution, zero fatal accidents, and zero serious cargo damage.
