The Coast Guard Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to the education and welfare of all Coast Guard members and their families, announced today that in 2015 it has awarded a record 86 scholarships with a value totaling just over $400,000. In just over 20 years, the Foundation's scholarship program has paid out more than $3 million to help families of Coast Guard members achieve their goals of higher education.

The Coast Guard Foundation scholarships are intended to benefit the children of enlisted men and women who are serving or have served in the U.S. Coast Guard, whether active duty, reserve, retired or deceased. In addition to a number of merit-based scholarships, the Fallen Heroes Scholarship benefits family members of Coast Guard members who have passed away in the line of duty. The Fallen Heroes Scholarship Fund provides full funding of the recipients college education, and was established by John and Delinda Statts in memory of John's parents, Captain Frederick Statts and his wife, Sara.

“We all know the sacrifices made every day by the brave men and women of the Coast Guard, but the families also make tremendous sacrifices as well,” said Anne Brengle, president, Coast Guard Foundation. “It is an honor for the Coast Guard Foundation to be able to give back by investing in the futures of these remarkable young men and women as they pursue their dreams of higher education.”
