Scheepswerf Gebr. Kooiman BV, a subsidiary of The Kooiman Group (www.thekooimangroup.com), has signed a contract to complete a conversion project for the sea going dredger Ostsee.
The Ostsee is a trailing suction hopper dredger and member of the fleet of Maritime Construction Services SA of Luxembourg. It was built by the Peene-Werft in 1995.
The conversion involves the replacement of the electrical drives of the dredging installation by direct diesel drives.
Two jet water pumps with electric motors will be replaced by two new Nijhuis pumps with a higher working pressure. 1,250kW Mitsubishi S16R-C2MPTKs with have been selected to drive these jet water pumps.
The electric motor of one dredge pump will be replaced by a 1,600kW Mitsubishi S16R2-T2MPTAW diesel engine. The diesel engines will be supplied by Koedood Diesel Service.
The bow thruster space will be converted into an engine room that will include a funnel, box cooler bins, extra insulation, engine room ventilation provisions, a compulsory fire extinguishing system, and required escape provisions.
The Ostsee (100 x 17,75 meter and 4.745 ton deadweight) has been dry docked at Scheepswerf Hoebee.
The engineering is carried out by Scheepsbouwkundig Ontwerpbureau Kooiman BV in Zwijndrecht. The electrical installation will be provided by Technisch Buro Mous BV, also from Zwijndrecht. The actual works will be carried out at the sister company Scheepswerf Hoebee BV.
