Master Class Seminars has announced the hosting of the Offshore Survey Training Seminar, October 21 through October 25, 2002. The workshop will be held in West Houston, at a venue to be announced shortly.
The course is being offered in response to a high level of demand for advanced and hands-on offshore survey training, and will include instruction on the theoretical, operational and data processing aspects of surface and underwater positioning, seabed mapping; geodesy and coordinate systems. There will also be talks on the latest concepts and technologies associated with GPS, inertial systems, and the relevance of GIS for offshore applications.
Steve Shipman, MBE of Flagship Training Ltd, will lead a panel of expert instructors, each of whom was selected for their practical knowledge as well as their extensive experience in developing and delivering high-level industry training courses. Steve was
invested as a Member of the British Empire (MBE) by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for his Services to Hydrographic Education with the British Royal Navy.
As part of the five-day course, participants will spend a day onboard a vessel observing offshore survey systems in action. The systems to be demonstrated will include GPS, differential GPS and acoustic positioning; multibeam bathymetry, sidescan sonar, sub-bottom profiler, inertial platforms and motion sensors. The training vessel is sponsored by Kongsberg Simrad, GeoAcoustics, Thales Skyfix and TSS, who will also host an evening icebreaker social scheduled for the second day of the seminar. The icebreaker will be attended by industry professionals and will provide a valuable forum for the exchange of ideas and the sharing of knowledge from academic and industry standpoints.
Since the workshop is limited to 40 participants, interested parties are encouraged to sign-up early. Registration prior to July 1 is $1,775.00. After July 1, the cost will be $1,875.00.
Members of the Marine Technology Society and the Hydrographic Society will receive a $75.00 discount. The registration fee includes five-day tuition, course materials, daily lunch and refreshments and a ticket for the icebreaker social.
