The Swedish based company SatPoint AB recently acquired NSABs (Nordic Satellite AB) multi service platform for data and telecommunications in the maritime business sector. SatPoint develops stabilized VSAT terminals and supplies associated services as well as offers the multi service platform DaMax (Demand Assigned Multiple Access) from the Swedish Space Corporations teleport in Stockholm.

NSABs President & CEO comments: - In our recent agreement, SatPoint acquired our marine platform and has become service provider for NSABs customers in the shipping industry. SatPoint has proven to supply a competitive service package by their integration of advantageous financing solutions and technically advanced satellite transmission services for the shipping sector.

The DaMax service is an intelligent symmetrical two-way VSAT traffic link for data, IP and telephony. The systems flexible bandwidth with prioritized telephony connections implies major progress for the shipping trade, which are now able to communicate internally between the ships and its land based offices through a single common communication platform. The DaMax platform becomes an integrated client in the companys computer network and telephone exchange system.

SatPoint provides products and services to the world market. In northern Europe the SIRIUS 2 coverage enables a reliable and high quality service. The equipment is easily integrated with analogue and digital telephony as well as with most computer network environments. The satellite terminal consists of SatPoints own developed and compact VSAT antenna for two-way satellite traffic with state-of-art digital modem technology below deck.

Mikael Reichel, Managing Director of SatPoint explaines the business concept: - We want to improve efficiency and save cost of operation by offering cutting edge communication products and services to the maritime business sector. Our satellite services are scalable between 64kbit/s up to 2Mbit/s. A typical client usually begins with a traffic contract for 64 kbit/s continuous access, which includes data/IP and two voice channels with 24/7availability. Our calculations shows that a typical service from us reaches breakeven by using satellite traffic only 9 minutes per day, compared to more traditional access-time based solutions available on the market today. Another advantage is that we not only manufacture key components but take care of the whole project from planning to installation, including training of the users. We also manage support and service throughout the business agreement period.
