New Moselle Service To Rotterdam Started

Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

June 8, 2014

The Bonn port business and freight forwarder Am Zehnhoff-Söns and the French port authority for the Moselle ports have started a direct service to the port of Rotterdam, via the joint venture MMS Multi Modal Shuttle. For the time being shipping line HTAG’s vessels operate a twice-weekly service in either direction. The hub is the port of Bonn on the Rhine.

Trial sailings have been under way since April. Before then there were only irregular services to the Westhavens. In the past few years, bridges have been raised, so that containers stacked three high can be transported. The Bonn terminal has been extended and equipped with a new crane, which can also operate ship-ship. The trimodal terminal of Metz, start/end point of the service, recently went into operation. Later this year the current mobile crane will be replaced by a fixed one and by the end of 2015 the terminal will have been expanded from today’s 6,000m2 to 33,000m2. One of the first clients is IKEA, which has a large distribution centre in the vicinity of Metz
