The Coast Guard came to the rescue of a vessel taking on water 1 mile off the coast of New Jersey this afternoon. The vessel Speculation, a 42-foot wooden hull recreational boat homeported in Freeport, NY, radioed the Coast Guard and reported that they were taking on water. The Coast Guard deployed a 47-ft. boat from Station Manasquan to the scene. The crew of the 47-ft. boat provided extra dewatering pumps to the five people on board the Speculation. The pumps were able to keep up with the amount of flooding which stood at 2-ft. of water in the ships bilge. The Coast Guard Cutter Seahorse, an 87-ft. patrol boat homeported in Portsmouth, Va., was also directed to the scene to provide additional pumps if needed. A boat from Tow Boat U.S. towed the vessel back to Manasquan Inlet.
