Chilean Electricity Megaproject Can get Reformulated under New Norms

 

Chilean electricity HidroAysén megaproject could be reformulated and even incorporate a new partner to rejection awakening in the country, said in an interview published on Sunday President generator Colbun, one of the partners of the initiative .

HidroAysén, which Colbún owns 49 percent this week appealed the decision of a ministerial committee rejected the draft build five plants in the Chilean Patagonia due to claims of communities in the area.

"We are fully available to have a constructive discussion, both in terms of modifications and reformulations of the project as to incorporate other actors to its development," said Bernardo Larrain in an interview with the newspaper La Tercera.

The 2,750 megawatt project envisages investments of more than 9,000 million dollars for central and extensive transmission line.

Reviews Larraín are added to the head of the Italian group Enel, which indirectly controls HidroAysén through Endesa Chile, who last month said the project could be modified in the future, but for now it is unfeasible due to rejection awake.

Since its passage in 2008 before regulators, environmentalists and various social organizations began organisms have opposed HidroAysén for its possible impact on the ecosystem and the tourism potential of the area.

Experts have estimated that the company could make the project with changes such as reducing flood zones planned or reducing the number of plants, as well as incorporating new mitigation measures for impact.
