Delaney Joins Portwide as President
Thomas J. Delaney has been named President of Portwide Cargo Securing Co. Inc., which supplies lashing services throughout the Port of New York/New Jersey. The announcement was made by Christopher Guido, owner of Portwide. Most recently, Delaney served as Senior Director, Sales and Marketing for APM Terminals (North America) Inc., out of the Elizabeth, N.J. office.
Delaney joined APM Terminals as Vice President, Labor Relations, in 2006. He was involved with matters related to the ILA Master Contract and the implementation of new technology. He also served on the Board of Directors for both USMX and NYSA and served as trustee on several industry pension and benefits plans.
He assumed his most recent position in 2008. There he was principal liaison with container carriers and BCOs. Under his leadership, the terminals effectively expanded its business model from proprietary operator to third-party service provider. He worked to plan, develop and lead sales efforts for multiple marine terminals in the U.S. and for inland facilities in Central and South America and utilized business relationships developed over 20 years as the primary resource to exceed sales expectations.
Prior to joining the AP Moller Maersk organization, Delaney spent 15 years as Senior Vice President/Co-owner of the Columbia Group of Companies, Liberty Corner, N.J., where he held a variety of positions in different functional areas; progressing from Port Manager in Boston to Senior Vice President/Co-owner. He expanded business from primarily container-on-barge provider to include container drayage, depot operations and maintenance and repair.
A 1986 graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, Delaney worked at Hanjin Container Lines in New Jersey as Assistant Marine Manager from 1987-1988 and then joined Sea-Land Service in Boston from 1988-1990, ascending from Marine Manager to Port Manager. He is a retired Lieutenant in the U.S. Naval Reserve. Delaney is active in various transportation organizations, including the Foreign Commerce Club of N.Y./N.J. and CONECT.
