Port of Los Angeles Container Traffic Heads Toward Record Fiscal Year
A May 2001 total of 400,011 TEUs brings the Port's 11-month throughput to just under 4.6 million TEUs.
Although the May 2001 total was a decrease of about 2 percent when compared to May last year, that May 2000 total represented a 22.5 percent increase in month-to-month comparisons over 1999 throughput. Port Executive Director Larry A. Keller explains, "The year 2000 was an incredible year. We saw unprecedented double digit increases each month. In fact, April 2000 to April 1999 comparisons showed an almost 44 percent increase. No one expected that pace to continue. We are showing consistent growth because of our customers and the increased efficiency they are using to put more and more cargo through L.A."
