Port of Long Beach Offers Scholarships to HS Seniors
Port of Long Beach supports students pursuing higher education
For many high school seniors, the thought of college can be financially intimidating. The Port of Long Beach said it is committed to supporting students by providing scholarships to those pursuing careers in international trade, goods movement or other port-related industries.
Scholarship applications will be available for high school seniors starting Tuesday, Sept. 2 through Friday, Jan. 16, 2015. The scholarship awards range from $1,000 to $8,000, which will be disbursed over four years of college.
“We are dedicated to supporting our community’s youth. By investing in them now we can assure that we continue to have the best and the brightest leading the Port and international trade industry for generations to come,” said Commissioner Lou Anne Bynum, a champion for higher education in Long Beach and the surrounding areas.
Since 1993, the Port has awarded nearly $550,000 in scholarships to local students.
Winners will be notified in the spring of 2015 and invited to attend the Port’s “Celebrating Education” event during World Trade Month in May.
