Port of Hueneme Inks BMW North America Contract
Port Officials and BMW of North America, on the eve of BMW’s 26th anniversary at the Port, executed a fifth modification of its 1987 contract extending their agreement for an additional five years through December 31, 2018.
Said Harbor Board President Jason Hodge, “BMW’s Vehicle Distribution Center is a vital community partner and a significant economic engine. The center, along with a training center and the Emissions Test center employs 85 workers most of whom live in Oxnard and Port Hueneme and further employs no less than 30+ temporaries, with an overall estimated payroll of roughly $4.4 million a year.”
BMW’s Port manager Mark T. Walsh said, “As a part of the Oxnard community, BMW of North America and our employees are excited to continue the growth of our partnership which began in 1987 and has seen approximately 1.4 million vehicles pass through this facility.”
Port CEO and Executive Director Kristin Decas noted at the announcement, “26 years represents a lifetime in the maritime community. A lot has changed but the partnership between the Port and BMW has only gotten better with time,".”
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW NA) was established in 1975 as the United States importer of BMW luxury/performance vehicles. BMW of North America's Corporate Headquarters is located in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey. The Oxnard Vehicle Distribution Center is one of BMW’s most important, serving the entire western United States and is one of the company’s most productive distribution centers, processing as many as one-third of all new BMWs sold in the United States.
The Port of Hueneme describes the port as one of the most productive and efficient commercial trade gateways for niche cargo on the West Coast.
