Tenix Secures Second Philippines Contract

The go-ahead for six new search and rescue vessels for the Philippine Coast Guard confirms Tenix Defence as Australia’s leading patrol boat constructor, Tenix Group Managing Director Paul Salteri said today. Tenix Defence will build two 56-metre search and rescue vessels and four 35-metre high-speed search and rescue vessels for the Coast Guard, with an option for 10 more 35-metre vessels, under a contract worth up to US$150m. “Tenix Defence built two previous 56-metre vessels for the Philippines at our yard at Henderson in Western Australia, where the new vessels will also be built.” Mr Salteri said. “These vessels were delivered in June 2000 and December 2000, and their success in operational service has led directly to the second order. “This is a tribute to the outstanding design, engineering and construction skills of the Tenix Defence project team at Henderson. “It is also a tribute to the Philippines Ambassador to Australia, Mrs Delia Domingo-Albert, who gave untiring support to the project.” Mr Salteri added. Tenix Defence has designed and built 35 similar craft, now in service in the South Pacific, Hong Kong and Kuwait. It currently manages the In-Service Support of 22 of those vessels. “The second Philippines Coast Guard contract confirms Tenix Defence’s position as Australia’s leading patrol boat builder,” Mr Salteri said. “Our experience in designing, constructing and supporting these vessels, and other vessels operating in similar conditions, has been incorporated into our bid for replacement of Australia’s patrol boat fleet. “We are confident we can also deliver the best replacement patrol boat for the Royal Australian Navy, incorporating the performance, support, value and innovation which Tenix boats have proven in service,” Mr Salteri said.
