Resurgence Software, Inc., and maintenance optimization software for the maritime industry, announced today an agreement to provide its Wave Equipment Optimization System and related support services to Northrop Grumman Ship Systems (NGSS). This comprehensive license agreement, with the Integrated Logistics Support group of NGSS' Full Service Operations, includes installation and use of the Wave system by NGSS along with their subcontractors during the construction phase of U.S. Navy ships being built in the company's LPD 17 Program.
The Wave system complies with the military's requirement for a Failure and Reporting Analysis and Corrective Action System (FRACAS) under MIL-STD-2155. This military standard is part of the general requirements and specific tasks for reliability programs. A FRACAS system is designed to store, monitor, and investigate failure-related problems experienced during the time period from initial factory testing through ship delivery. The information gathered and analyzed in the Wave system can be used in the design and construction of future vessels to implement continuous improvement in ship system reliability and maintenance. Vessels using the Wave system are able to focus resources on preventing and reducing the consequences of failures with the highest impact on availability.
"The Wave system provides the failure reporting capabilities we require," said Rory Keehn, Section Manager - Maintenance for NGSS Full Service Operations (Avondale Section). "But it also contains sophisticated data management and analysis tools which enhance its value as a life-cycle cost management tool."
"We are pleased to be working with the people of NGSS on this project," said Tom Bubrig, President of Resurgence Software. "Our software and their engineering expertise is a great combination for delivering to their customers better vessels with a lower total cost of ownership."
In addition to serving as a FRACAS tool, the Wave Equipment Optimization System is a machinery risk and reliability analysis software package used by ship owners and operators to optimize the reliability and financial performance of their fleets by maximizing vessel uptime, minimizing maintenance costs and reducing risks of failures. The Wave system offers a variety of features including seventeen equipment performance indicators which allow managers to: enhance fleet performance by analyzing vessel systems, equipment, and parts; track trends over time; reduce maintenance expenses by identifying chronic failures; and evaluate maintenance costs.
