Northrop Grumman Tapped for Carrier Work
Northrop Grumman Newport News was also awarded a $1.8 million contract to begin preparations for the USS George Washington's arrival to Japan in June 2008. This contract is in support of the U.S. Navy's Ship Repair Facility and Regional Maintenance Center in Yokosuka, Japan. Northrop Grumman will continue its aircraft carrier support contract in Japan with Sumitomo Heavy Industries. These contracts are part of an anticipated multi-year effort to support nuclear aircraft carriers in Japan.
"We are pleased to be expanding our fleet support operations in Japan," said Irwin F. Edenzon, vice president of technology development and fleet support for Northrop Grumman Newport News. "This new opportunity, along with our continued presence in San Diego, further demonstrates our ability to provide fleet maintenance support wherever it's needed in the world."
