Northrop Grumman Corporation has been awarded a $95.8m contract for
the detail design of the U.S. Navy's 21st century DDG 1000 destroyer.
The contract, to be performed by the company's Ship Systems sector,
includes the detail design and the procurement of any vendor-furnished
information that will be used in support of the design. The contract
runs through September 2007; when fully funded, the contract will total
more than $300 million through 2013.
The ship's mission is to provide affordable, credible,
independent forward presence/deterrence and to operate as an integral
part of naval, joint or combined maritime forces. DDG 1000 will
provide advanced land attack capability in support of ground campaigns
and will contribute naval, joint or combined battlespace dominance in
littoral operations. DDG 1000 technologies are in an advanced state of
development and will influence ship design worldwide for the remainder
of the century.
Work will be performed at Northrop Grumman Ship Systems'
Pascagoula and Gulfport facilities.
