Nor Shipping Gets Sustainability ISO Certification

Nor-Shipping, a maritime trade fair that has been held in Norway, has been certified as first in maritime industry to ISO’s sustainable event standard (ISO 20121).

At the official opening of Nor-Shipping 2019 in the City Hall of Oslo, Group President and CEO of DNV GL Remi Eriksen presented the Sustainable Event ISO 20121 certificate to the director of Nor-Shipping Per Martin Tanggaard and Gunn Helen Hagen, Managing Director, Norges Varemesse.

The maritime exhibition Nor-Shipping is one of the leading international meeting places for the shipping industry for the past 50 years. It is once again arranged in Norway, with 30 000 visitors from around the world at venues in Oslo and Lillestrøm.

Nor-Shipping aims to set a new benchmark for the maritime and ocean event segment with certification of their management system to  ISO 20121, the Sustainable Events Management System Standard for Events Organisations.

"This is a very important achievement for Nor-Shipping. We are proud to be the first industry player to commit to be a sustainable event with ISO 20121. Developing sustainable business activity within the ocean space is both one of the world’s greatest opportunities and greatest challenges,” Per Martin Tanggaard, Director Nor-Shipping, explained.

“Our industry can’t afford to fail in this mission and we at Nor-Shipping are doing all we can to showcase potential, connect businesses, and enable success in this evolving arena. Receiving the certificate on iso 20121 we hope influence and motivate others to prove their green focus", said Tanggaard.

The initiative is a collaborative effort in support of UN Sustainable Development Goal 17. Nor-Shipping`s “Project GREEN” worked alongside DNV GL on the certification process. They hope to influence the industry and demonstrate that everyone can work towards a sustainable future.  

"An ISO certification for sustainable events is awarded to events that are demonstrably socially responsible, committed to reducing their environmental footprint and working towards the Sustainable Development Goals. We are proud to award Nor-Shipping the first such certificate within the maritime industry", said Remi Eriksen, Group President and CEO in DNV GL.
