The Ships Equipment Division of ship service specialist Unitor has won the contract to supply fire protection systems to four 93,450-grt, 138,000-cu.-m. LNG carriers building at Spain's Izar for transportation of natural gas been the Caribbean and Spain and Egypt and Spain.
Under the terms of the deal, Unitor will deliver its advanced HotFoam, water mist and CO2 engineroom fire protection systems to the four LNG
newbuildings under construction at Izar's Bilbao and Sestao shipyards.
Three of the Spanish LNG carriers are being built to carry natural gas from the Caribbean (Trinidad and Tobago) to Spain under a charter from
Spain's oil and gas major Repsol. All three vessels will be owned by joint venture companies made up of Spanish and other European partners,
comprising: Tapias/Dorchester Maritime; Elcano/Gas Ocean and Marpetrol/Knutsen. The fourth vessel is being built for a Marpetrol/Knutsen joint venture to carry natural gas from Egypt to Spain
under a charter from Spain.
