New Study Defines Port of Seattle as 'The Green Gateway'
The "Carbon Footprint Study of the Asia to North America Intermodal Trade," was conducted by Herbert Engineering Corp., which looks at CO2e emissions of intermodal shipments from Asia to North American markets.
Key Study Findings
The study parameters include:
- Asian Origin Ports: Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Ho Chi Mihn, Tokyo and Busan
- North American Gateways: Ports of Prince Rupert, Seattle, Oakland, Los Angeles/Long Beach, Houston, Savannah, Norfolk and New York/New Jersey
- Gulf and East Coast ports, routes via the Panama and Suez Canals were analyzed, including the 2014 expansion of the Panama Canal
- North American Destination Cities: Chicago, Columbus, Memphis, New York and Norfolk
- Vessel Size: 4,500, 6,500, 8,500, and 12,500 TEUs
- Vessel Utilization: 60% to 90%, in 10% intervals
- Vessel Slow Steaming: 17 to 24 knots
