Furuno Multi-Million Dollar USCG Contract
Furuno USA, Inc. announced that it has been awarded a multi-year, multi-million dollar U.S. Coast Guard contract. The contract is for the replacement of up to 200 aging Radars on the USCG Cutter Fleet. The Cutter Fleet consists of a variety of vessels including, 87-ft Coastal Patrol Boats, 140-ft Ice Breaking Tugs, 160-ft Inland Buoy Tenders, 225-ft Seagoing Buoy Tenders and 399-ft Nuclear Icebreakers.
Each of these vessels will receive replacement IMO Radars that consist of single or multiple Black Box Radar processors, a 6.5-ft open array antenna and single or multiple displays. These high-tech Radars have an output power of 25kW, which allows them to see a distance of up to 96 nautical miles. The FAR2127 Radar series comes equipped with ARPA (Automatic Radar Plotting Aid) that allows the operator to track up to 100 targets on the screen and it can also display up to 1,000 AIS symbols on the screen when it is connected to an AIS transponder. This will allow the operator to track moving targets and obtain critical information regarding the targets vessel name, length, type of vessel, position, cargo type and more.
Furuno USA, Inc. will be conducting a three-day kick-off installation and operation training in October at the Furuno USA Denton, Md. facility.
