Monjasa acquires the 3,600 DWT tanker, MT Fredericia for continued bunker operation in the English Channel.
Leading up to the acquisition, the vessel has been on time charter by Monjasa for several years and the ceaseless high performance of the vessel now leads to definitive Monjasa ownership.
In 2016, Monjasa established a niche market in the English Channel as an alternative for shipowners and operators taking bunkers in the ARA hub. In this setup, MT Fredericia plays a significant role and currently performs exclusive bunkering operations in the Portland, Tongue Anchorage and Falmouth areas.
The MT Fredericia is a 2008 purpose-built bunker tanker and from her current position she will continue fuelling vessels entering and exiting the SECA zone.
“We are seeing a steady demand for our services in the UK and this is also the reason why we decided to acquire the vessel. Monjasa now gains full ownership of the supply chain as we already control all sourcing and storage of oil products at our oil terminal in Portland Port,” says Group CEO, Anders Østergaard.
As part of the operations, MT Frederica currently completes several weekly supplies to cruise ships in nearby Southampton, which is one of the world’s busiest cruise ports. Monjasa has experienced an increase in number of fuel deliveries to this particular customer segment over the past two years and this summer prospects a busy period ahead for the vessel and her crew.
In 2017, Monjasa supplied 700,000mts of marine fuel across Northwest Europe – equivalent to 19% of Monjasa’s 3.5 million mts. total supply volume.
