Coast Guard Medevacs Injured Crewman

A Coast Guard helicopter crew hoisted an injured crewman from the fishing vessel ANDREW TU, about 75 miles east of New Orleans, yesterday afternoon. Coast Guard Group New Orleans was notified shortly after 11:35 a.m. that Phuc Cong Nyugen, 43, needed to be airlifted due to a broken arm and lacerations he received while working in the vessel's engine room.

An HH-65B Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans was dispatched to the scene where the crew lowered a rescue swimmer and litter to the vessel. On deck the swimmer prepared the man in the litter and treated him for shock. Once aboard the helicopter, the crew transported Nyugen to Singing River Hospital in Pascagoula, Miss., where he is reported to be in stable condition.
