The MV Mona Lisa Joins the TSS The Topaz in Offering the Fully Managed Sealink High-Speed Data Solution for Global Passenger and Ship Communications
OSLO, Norway and ROCKVILLE, Maryland (October 27, 2003) - Marlink today announced that it has signed a five-year agreement with the owners of the MV Mona Lisa, represented by Kyma Ship Management, Inc. of Miami, Florida, to provide complete satellite communications onboard the vessel.
The agreement calls for Marlink, a company within Telenor Satellite Services formed to serve as the preferred interface between maritime customers and the satellite communications industry, to provide Sealink high-speed communications service. Operating at speeds up to 2 Megabits per second, the Sealink solution allows guests and crew to enjoy greater access to the Internet, e-mail, fax services, and telephone service. The system being installed aboard the MV Mona Lisa offers one of the most advanced shipboard satellite communications solutions available today with the highest reliability in the industry.
The system will provide passengers with direct Internet access. In addition, the system permits simultaneous transmission of large amounts of data, voice calls, facsimile, and e-mail messages, and has the potential for videoconferencing. Guests apply usage charges to a major credit card, making billing and payment simple and easy to understand.
"Marlink's maritime VSAT solution will help stabilize the MV Mona Lisa's communications costs and will provide our passengers real-time and reliable service allowing them to keep in touch with family, friends, and businesses," said Captain Paris Katsoufis, president of Kyma Ship Management. "Our onboard communications afford our guests instant access to the latest news, weather, and world events, regardless of where in the world the MV Mona Lisa is sailing."
"We are delighted that Kyma has chosen Marlink as its communications provider for its fleet of cruise vessels, said Søren Einshøj, managing director of Marlink. "As Marlink becomes the maritime industry's preferred integrator of communications solutions, our customers will continue to benefit from increased operating and cost efficiencies because we offer the most complete portfolio of communications, equipment, and value added services currently available. Additionally, Marlink customers experience a level of service flexibility that is not currently available through other service providers in the industry."
Marlink now provides Sealink global high-speed data communications packages for all cruise ships managed by Kyma. (Marlink and Kyma announced a communications agreement for the TSS The Topaz in April 2003.)
Kyma Ship Management is the latest organization in the cruise industry to team with Marlink to offer high-speed data communications via satellite for its cruise ships at sea. Marlink provides high-speed data and voice communications via satellite to a growing number of customers in the cruise industry.
