Naming Ceremony for Damen Fishing Vessel
On November 1st, 2019, the latest Damen Shipyards Group fishing vessel, constructed at Damen Maaskant Shipyards Stellendam (Maaskant) was named in a dedicated ceremony organized by leading fishing company Van der Zwan. The vessel was named Spes Nova by Director of Fisheries and Rural Affairs at the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality for the Netherlands Nanou Beekman.The Spes Nova, a UK-205 fly-shooter/twinrigger vessel, is part of a newly-developed range of fishing trawlers based on a Vripack Naval Architects design that sets new benchmarks for the entire sector.

New Fishing Boat to Be Built with ShipConstructor
Dutch fishing company Ekofish Group has contracted Damen Maaskant Shipyards Stellendam to build a new twin-rig fishing trawler, specially designed to support eco-friendly fishing. Vripack will be using SSI’s ShipConstructor software for design and engineering work on the vessel. Vripack has brought the quality of its yacht design experience to the design of its first twin-rigger fishing vessel. Using a holistic approach, Vripack closely collaborated with both Ekofish and Maaskant Shipyards to create a practical, yet innovative design.
Damen Maaskant Scores Twin-rigger Contract
Damen Maaskant Shipyards Stellendam said it has secured another contract to build a twin-rig fly shooting fishing trawler; this time for brothers Rense and Johannes de Boer. This is Damen Maaskant’s second fishing trawler contract in as many months, following close behind the contract to build the 32-meter long Spes Nova that was signed in November. Although the new vessel, to be named Meindert Senior, will have the same Vripack naval architects design as the Spes Nova, it displays some major differences.
BMT Nigel Gee Secures LNG Ferries Contract
Naval architecture and marine engineering design consultancy BMT Nigel Gee said it has secured a project through an international tender process to design two 70-meter aluminum-hull catamaran RoPax ferries for Rederij Doeksen. New Innovative CNG-Electric Hybrid Ferry Texelstroom
The M/S Texelstroom is more energy efficient, cleaner and more sustainable than her predecessors. CNG-electric hybrid ferry Texelstroom features some of the latest technological developments and innovation, such as a T-shaped beam which ensures a 14 percent car capacity improvement and a CNG/Diesel Hybrid propulsion which make the ship more cost-efficient and thus more environmentally friendly, says C-Job Naval Architects, who is responsible for the vessel’s complete initial, concept and basic design. Other innovations include solar panels, peak shaving batteries and heat recovery. At 135 meters long and 28 meters wide, the new ship is 5 meters taller and wider than her predecessors, C-Job said, though the new Texelstroom is still able to dock in the same port as the Dokter Wagenmaker.

ShipConstructor 2014 R2.1, released from SSI, has been specifically designed to rapidly respond to emerging trends in ship design and engineering as identified by SSI's new Client Council program, the company said. Brazilian superyacht builder MCP Yachts credited Seatorque Control Systems for contributing to the outstanding performance of its latest launch – the Hemisphere 140 Raffaella II. Incorporating Seatorque’s enclosed drive shaft system, the 43m aluminum vessel, powered by twin Caterpillar C32 1825 HP engines, achieved a top cruising speed of 22 knots during sea trials with an 85% load and 167 metric tons displacement, said MCP president Manoel Chaves. Burger Boat Company – Monaco Celebrates Anniversary
One full year has passed since the Grand Opening of Burger Boat Company – Monaco. To celebrate the occasion, Burger hosted a reception for Monaco Captains in its belle époque office in the heart of Monaco. Information was shared on the current six projects currently underway at the shipyard in Manitowoc, Wis., including the 43m Tri-deck, Andrew Winch interior Sea Owl; the 47m Tri-deck, Vripack Interior Time For Us and the 44m traditionally-styled Fantail Cruiser, Ken Freivokh interior Sycara. Further discussion was given to the transformation at the renowned Burger Shipyard. In addition to the new 48,000 sq. ft. manufacturing complex that was completed in 2004, there is a new 43,000 sq. ft.
