Value Maritime (VM) has successfully installed its Exhaust Gas Cleaning System (EGCS) and Carbon Capture unit aboard Nexus Victoria, an LR1 product tanker owned by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (“K” LINE) and Electric Power Development Co., Ltd. (J-POWER) decided to install the “Seawing”, an automated kite system using wind power, on Corona Citrus, an 88,000 DWT-type special coal carrier for J-POWER.Completed on September 11, 2019, the 230 x 38m Corona Citrus is equipped with a ballast water treatment system and a SOx scrubber, too. The new “Seawing” is expected to reduce CO2 emissions from the ship by at least 20%.

Japanese shipping company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) said that a naming ceremony was held Monday for the MOL-operated next-generation coal carrier at Oshima Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. in Japan.The 234.96 meters long vessel, with a  deadweight tonnage of 89,999 tons, will serve Hokuriku Electric Power Company. The vessel was named Hokulink by Hokuriku Electric Power President Matsuda. VDL AEC Maritime received an order for the delivery of two retrofit scrubber systems to Seatrade Groningen BV. With this order VDL AEC Maritime extends its portfolio for the first time in their own home country, ánd to a Dutch ship-owner. In view of the upcoming CO2 emission regulations, Langh Tech has started researching the possibility of carbon capture on board vessels. The Finnish company said first tests have been successfully performed on board one of the vessels in sister company Langh Ship’s fleet, utilizing the existing Langh Tech hybrid scrubber installed on board.Langh Tech revealed Thursday it has conducted several preliminary tests of capturing CO2 emitted by a vessel’s main engine by the means of using an existing Langh Tech closed loop SOx scrubber system.

Finland-based Langh Tech announced the launch of its new ballast water management system using fine filtration and UV-C irradiation.The system, tailored for retrofit vessels, crowded spaces and extremely challenging operating conditions, was developed in-house on a fast schedule – in less than a year from first ideas to product launch.“During autumn 2020 we started thinking that there might be a need for even more compact systems than the present ones on the market, so we decided to do one,” said Langh Tech Commercial Director Laura Langh-Lagerlöf.

Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd., (“K” Line) has delivered the Tohoku Maru, a 91,000 DWT-type special coal carrier at Oshima Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.Tohoku Maru is same type as “K” Line’s specialized fleet for transport of thermal coal known as the “Corona-series”. The “Corona-series” consists of epoch-making coal carriers equipped with wide beam and shallow draft, which are said to be the most suitable type to enter ports of Japanese Thermal Power Stations to discharge cargo.Tohoku Maru is equipped with Advanced Flipper Fins and Rudder Fin which promote her propeller efficiency.

Japanese shipping giant Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line) has placed an order for a 210,000 dwt bulk carrier at compatriot shipbuilder, Japan Marine United Corporation.The 108,900 gross ton vessel is being built for a consecutive voyage contract with JFE Steel and will be used to ship iron ore and coal. Japanese shipping company Mitsui O.S.K. A naming ceremony was held in Kumamoto Prefecture at the Ariake Shipyard of Japan Marine United Corporation for a new VLGC (very large gas carrier) that NYK will charter under a long-term contract to Astomos Energy Corporation,  pre-eminent liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) company.The ship was named “Lily Promenade” by Kazuhisa Otsuka, senior operating officer of Astomos Energy Corporation, and the ceremonial rope holding the vessel in place was cut by Mariko Kurokawa of Astomos.

Tsuneishi Shipbuilding has delivered its first containership newbuilding from its yard in the Cebu, the Philippines.The Philippines yard’s first container vessel, a 1,944 teu Bangkok Max sized ship was delivered on 10 September. Japanese shipping giant Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line) has taken delivery of a 88,000 dwt coal carrier from compatriot shipbuilder Imabari Shipbuilding in Marugame.Named Corona Citrus, the vessel was delivered on September 11 for electric utility Electric Power Development Co. Japanese shipping giant Nippon Yusen (NYK) has concluded a contract with Japan Marine United Corporation (JMU) for construction of a next-generation (NGEN) energy-saving bulk carrier.After delivery in 2021, the ship is expected to transport raw materials for JFE Steel Corporation under a long-term charter contract between NYK and JFE Steel.The ship will be a cape-size bulker for trading iron ore and coking coal in and around the Pacific.
