SunStone Lines Up Multi-year Charters for Two Expedition Cruise Ships

SunStone Maritime Group announced it has secured multi-year charters for two of its expedition cruise ships.The deals are for SunStone's Infinity Class vessels Ocean Explorer and the Ocean Odyssey, both built by China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) and delivered in 2021 and 2022 respectively.Under its new charter agreement, Ocean Explorer will return to polar cruising in October 2024 for SunStone's long-term client Quark Expeditions. Marlink Providing Network Solutions for Quark Expeditions

Marlink has provided high throughput hybrid network solutions for Quark Expeditions’ MV Ultramarine since the start of the 2021 Arctic season. After the first full year with the service, the operater said it found that guests and staff on Ultramarine enjoyed continuous, high-quality connectivity despite the high latitudes and harsh operational environment.While Quark Expeditions has operated a fleet of chartered vessels and icebreakers for more than 30 years, Ultramarine is Quark’s first fully owned newbuild and is the newest ship in its fleet.

Quark Takes Delivery of New Expedition Cruise Ship Ultramarine

U.S.-based Quark Expeditions has taken delivery of its new polar expedition cruise ship Ultramarine from the Brodosplit Shipyard in Croatia.The 128-meter Ultramarine has accommodations for 199 passengers in 103 cabins, plus 140 crew members. It features two twin-engine helicopters and two heliports as well as 20 quick-deploy Zodiacs for off-ship adventuring.Andrew White, president of Quark Expeditions, said, “Every aspect of Ultramarine has been designed and engineered to enable our teams to get guests off the ship and deep into the polar wilderness better than ever before.

Quark Expeditions, a leader in polar adventures, held the keel-laying ceremony for its pioneering new ship Ultramarine on August 2, officially kicking off the next stage in the ship’s construction: the build of its hull and superstructure.Held at Brodosplit, the largest shipyard in Croatia, the event was attended by a mix of senior staff from Brodosplit, its parent company DIV Group, Quark Expeditions, its parent company Travelopia, and private equity investors KKR. Quark Expeditions Intros Ultramarine

Polar adventures specialist Quark Expeditions is to introduce new livery on Ultramarine, it’s latest expedition cruise vessel, which will debut in time for the 2020-2021 season in Antarctica.The 200 passenger polar expedition ship is under construction at Croatia’s Brodosplit shipyard. The 128 meter vessel is being built to a design by Sembcorp Marine’s Bergen, Norway, headquartered subsidiary LMG Marin.The renderings showcase new livery featuring Quark Expeditions’ distinctive yellow “Q” logo spanning the full height of the ship, reflecting Quark’s mission to go beyond the predictable, said a press release.New interior renderings highlight Ultramarine’s spacious suites as well as a range of striking public spaces

Evac Evolution BWMS Gets USCG Nod

V. Ships Leisure, Mystic Cruises Team Up

V.Ships Leisure, part of V.Group, a global marine support services provider, has partnered with Mystic Cruises to provide crew management services including deck, engine, and hotel crew for the 9,300 GRT ice-classed vessel World Explorer.The vessel, which is currently under the final stages of construction at WestSea Viana Shipyard in Portugal will be delivered to Mystic Cruises in Q2 2019. With capacity for 200 passengers, World Explorer will be Mystic Cruises’ first newbuild expedition vessel

Quark to Implement Evac Solution

The operator of polar exploration cruises Quark Expeditions will install with an Evac Complete Cleantech Solution that now includes a ballast water management system."With Evac solutions, it can be assured that Quark's new ship will have the least impact on the environment," claimed the provider of integrated qater management systems for the marine and offshore industries.The new expedition ship designed to carry up to 200 passengers will be built by Brodosplit in Croatia and is scheduled to be launched in 2020.“We are confident that the Evac Group will be a perfect partner for us in the execution of the vessel,” said Tatjana Mlinaric, Senior Contracts Manager at DIV Group, the Brodosplit mother company.

Steel Cut for Quark Polar Expedition Ship

Quark Orders Polar Expedition Ship from Brodosplit

Quark Expeditions has signed an agreement with Croatian shipbuilder Brodosplit to build a new expedition ship designed for operation in the polar regions.The 13,000+ gross metric ton, 200-passenger ship was designed by LMG Marin in cooperation with Quark Expeditions and is scheduled to be launched in 2020.“This ship will be more than just a ship – it will be an unrivalled operational base for polar expeditions,” said Andrew White, Quark Expeditions President.The ship will carry 20 zodiacs that will be rapidly deployable from an internal zodiac hangar with four embarkation points.

The 2016 Polar Code has its first luxury-adventure cruise adherents for the long, new ice-free seasons in the high latitudes. Likewise, many designs winning over owners and explorers target exotic Asia-Pacific destinations. Competition is fierce among “designer-shipyards” seeking to build their designs, but their creations could face fewer hurdles to construction than the designs of independents without a yard. Concepts bound for the slipway have something else in common: new davits for large numbers of water craft.

New Eco-friendly Expedition Cruise Ship in the Works

Rolls-Royce said it has signed a deal with WestSea Yard, part of Martifer Group, to equip an expeditionary oceanic cruise ship for Portuguese based cruise company Mystic Cruises. The vessel, to be called the MS World Explorer, will be the company’s first expeditionary oceanic cruise ship. The MS World Explorer will offer expeditionary cruise itineraries in Antarctica from November to March and this new vessel’s inaugural Antarctic season is already fully chartered to, and being distributed globally by, Polar Cruise Company Quark Expeditions.
