Wallenius Marine Tests Wind-Powered PCTC Design

Wallenius Wilhelmsen Exercises Options for Two Additional Shaper Class PCTCs

Wallenius Wilhelmsen, the world’s largest RoRo vessel operator, has ordered two additional 11,700 CEU Shaper class pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs) from China Merchants Jingling Shipyard in China.The two declared options are part of the four previously announced outstanding options. Friday Shipbrokers Arranges Transport of Car Carrier to China for Repair

Friday & Co. Shipbrokers completed a chartering deal between Boskalis and a Chinese charterer to transport the car carrier Floor (formerly Fremantle Highway) from the Netherlands to China. The project entails transporting the vessel — damaged by fire last year — aboard Boskalis' semi-submersible heavy lift flagship, the Boka Vanguard, for repairs and modifications in Asia.Fremantle Highway, en route from Bremerhaven to Singapore in 2023, encountered a fire in the North Sea but was ultimately saved and docked in Rotterdam.

China Merchants Heavy Industry has ordered two MAN B&W 7S60ME-LGIM (-Liquid Gas Injection Methanol) engines in connection with the construction of two 9,300 ceu (car equivalent units) PCTCs for China Merchants Energy Shipping (CMES).The order is the first order globally for the S60ME-LGIM variant, the first methanol-fuelled engine for a PCTC, and the first Chinese-built methanol engine.Engine manufacturer, CSE, will construct the engines in China with respective vessel delivery set for 2025 and 2026; the order also contains an option for an additional four vessels.

MacGregor to Deliver RoRo Equipment to Two K Line Pure Car and Truck Carriers

Cargotec's MacGregor said Thursday it had won a large order to supply RoRo equipment for two 6,900 CEU Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTC).The ships will be built at Shin Kurushima Toyohashi Shipbuilding Co.,Ltd. for K Line (Kawasaki  Kisen Kaisha, Ltd) in Japan.The first vessel is scheduled to be delivered to the owner in the first quarter of 2025 and the second in the second quarter of 2025. MacGregor’s scope of supply consists of design, supply, and installation assistance for a stern ramp, a side ramp, three sets of movable ramps, a ramp cover, and a mobile deck lifter for each vessel.

SFL to Acquire PCTC with Long-term Charter

SFL Corporation Ltd. has agreed to acquire a Pure Car Truck Carrier (“PCTC”) in combination with a long term time charter to a leading car carrier operator until 2028.The company expects to take delivery of the vessel during the fourth quarter. The fixed rate charter backlog will increase by approximately $65 million, with the possibility of additional upside from profit share related to fuel savings from the vessel’s scrubber. MOL, TotalEnergies Complete First First Ship Refuelling with Biofuel in Singapore

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) and TotalEnergies Marine Fuels have completed the first refuelling of a ship with biofuels in Singapore, the shipping company said on Wednesday.The ship, a car and truck carrier named Heroic Ace, was refueled using biofuel supplied by TotalEnergies via a ship-to-ship transfer on June 11, MOL said in a statement.The biofuel blend that was used in the trial comprised of very low sulphur fuel oil (VLSFO) blended with 20% second-generation, waste-based and ISCC-certified used cooking oil methyl ester (UCOME), MOL said.

MacGregor to Deliver RoRo Equipment for Four New Höegh Autoliners’ PCTCs

Cargotec's MacGregor has won a deal to deliver comprehensive packages of RoRo equipment for an additional four Aurora class Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTCs). The vessels will be multi-fuel and zero-carbon ready, and the order will extend Höegh Autoliners’ Aurora class newbuilding program to eight vessels, all of which will be built by China Merchant Heavy Industries (Jiangsu) Co.,  Ltd.The order for MacGregor's scope, valued at more than $15 million, was booked into Cargotec’s 2022 second-quarter orders received.

NYK Takes Delivery of Plumeria Leader Car and Truck Carrier

Japanese shipping company NYK last week took delivery of the Plumeria Leader, an LNG-powered pure car and truck carrier (PCTC).The vessel, delivered on March 24, was built at the Shin Kurushima Dockyard of Shin Kurushima Toyohashi Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. This is NYK's second LNG-fueled car carrier following the delivery of the Sakura Leader."By vessel modification and the switch to LNG, Plumeria Leader will make the ship up to approximately 40% more energy efficient (by reducing CO2 emissions per unit of transport) compared to ships using conventional heavy oil-fired engines.

Ship Tech: GHG Emission Reduction focus of NYK LNG-Fueled PCTC Newbuilds

NYK has concluded a shipbuilding contract with China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Nanjing) Co. Ltd. for four LNG-fueled PCTCs to be delivered from 2022 to 2023, intended to transport vehicles mainly to/from Europe and/or to the Middle East.The ships are designed with GHG emission reduction, and to that end they will be outfieed with WinGD’s X-DF2.0 iCER main engine, the first time they will be utilized in the world. According to NYK, the engine consumes less gas and reduces GHG by cutting methane emissions from exhaust gas by approximately 50%.

NYK Orders 2nd LNG-Fueled PCTC

Japanese shipping and logistics company Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) has placed an order to build a second LNG-fueled pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) with Shin Kurushima Dockyard Co.The shipbuilding contract was signed at NYK’s head office on January 31.
