SHIPS for America Act rolled out on the Hill

The bipartisan, bicameral bill will fuel U.S. economy, strengthen national security by responding to China’s threat over the oceans. Currently, the number of U.S.-flagged vessels in international commerce is 80; China has 5,500.Today, Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ), Senator Todd Young (R-IN), Representative John Garamendi (D-CA-8), and Representative Trent Kelly (R-MS-1) introduced the Shipbuilding and Harbor Infrastructure for Prosperity and Security (SHIPS) for America Act, comprehensive legislation to revitalize the United States shipbuilding and commercial maritime industries. After decades of neglect, the United States has a weakened shipbuilding capacity, a declining commercial shipping fleet that is dwarfed by China, and a diminished ability to supply the U.S. military during wartime.

Ecuador’s Main Port Strengthens Trade Connection to Asia

Contecon Guayaquil (CGSA), Ecuador’s main port and subsidiary of ICTSI, has signed a new commercial agreement for the Asia-South America (ASA) service, further strengthening Contecon Guayaquil’s connectivity with the Asian market.The agreement brings back five shipping lines and their shippers’ customer base to the terminal: Wan Hai, Pacific International Lines, Cosco, Evergreen and Yang Ming.The ASA service used to call at Contecon Guayaquil until 2015. PIL Orders Five More Dual-Fuel LNG Container Ships

Pacific International Lines (PIL) has ordered another five 9,000 TEU dual-fuel LNG container vessels.The vessels will be built by one of China’s leading shipbuilders, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Hudong-Zhonghua), with delivery expected in 2027 and 2028.Earlier this year, PIL ordered five LNG dual-fuel container vessels with 13,000 TEU capacity from Hudong-Zhonghua. Pacific International Lines (PIL) has named its first two 14,000 TEU container vessels in a ceremony at Jiangnan Shipyard in China. Wärtsilä to Supply Systems on Four PIL Containerships

Wärtsilä will supply the LNG Fuel Gas Supply System, Propulsion Control System and Alarm Monitoring and Control System for four new 8200 TEU LNG dual-fuel container ships being built for Singapore-based Pacific International Lines (PIL) at the Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding yard in China. The orders were included in Wärtsilä’s order book in Q4 2022.Wärtsilä Fuel Gas Supply System (FGSS) will feed LNG fuel to power both main and auxiliary engines from the vessel’s 7500 cu. m. membrane tank.

Technology group Wärtsilä announced it will supply the liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel gas supply system, propulsion control system and alarm monitoring and control system for four new 8200 TEU LNG dual-fuel containerships being built for Singapore-based Pacific International Lines (PIL) at the Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding yard in China. Atlantic Gulf & Pacific International Holdings (AG&P) have signed a charter agreement to use ADNOC L&S 's LNG Carrier Gasha, as a Floating Storage Unit (FSU).The LNG carrier will be used at AG&P's LNG import terminal in India, which will be commissioned in the second half of 2024. AG&P Converts LNG Carrier intu FSU for LNG Import Terminal in the Philippines

Atlantic, Gulf & Pacific International Holdings (AG&P) said Sunday that it had converted the 137,512 cubic meter LNG carrier called ISH into a Floating Storage  Unit (FSU), which will be a part of an LNG import terminal in the Philippines from 2023."The ISH is a central component of the first Philippines LNG Import Terminal (PHLNG). Ready to be docked at AG&P's PHLNG facility in Batangas, the FSU is part of the combined offshore-onshore  import terminal that will have an initial capacity of 5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).

HII Taps BlueZone for REMUS AUV Services in Australia

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII), the U.S. naval shipbuilder and unmanned systems manufacturer, said Tuesday it had selected its Australian sales partner, BlueZone Group, as an authorized REMUS autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) service center. Singtel to Provide VSAT for 33 PIL Containerships

PIL Exits Transpacific Market

Singapore shipping company Pacific International Lines (PIL) has announced that it is quitting the Transpacific market as part of an optimization strategy. The shipping line has been participating in a half-dozen trans-Pacific services, mostly in slot-charter arrangements.PIL’s last Transpacific sailing will be in March 2020.The company said it has taken the decision as part of a wider strategic review of its business. PIL Fined $3 Million Over Felony Dumping Violations

Singapore-based shipping company Pacific International Lines (PIL) will pay $3 million in fines after pleading guilty to felony dumping violations in Hagatna, Guam.The vessel operating company and two engineers were sentenced for illegally discharging oil and for maintaining false and incomplete records relating to the discharges of oily bilge water from the containership Kota Harum in 2019. PIL, chief engineer Maung Maung Soe, and second engineer Peng Luo Hai admitted that oily bilge water was illegally dumped from the Kota Harum directly into the ocean and into Apra Harbor, Guam without being properly processed through required pollution prevention equipment.
