Canada Joins LNG Export Nations as First Cargo Sets Sail

LNG Canada Produces First LNG for Export

The Shell-led LNG Canada facility has produced its first LNG for export in Kitimat, British Columbia, a spokesperson for the project confirmed on Sunday.The milestone comes in advance of the facility loading its first LNG export cargo, which LNG Canada said it remains on track to do by the middle of this year.The facility is the first large-scale Canadian LNG project to begin production and also the first major LNG facility in North America with direct access to the Pacific coast, significantly reducing sail time to Asian markets when compared to U.S.

Biofuel Trialed on NYK Coal Carrying Vessel

NYK recently started a biofuel test run on its coal carrier Noshiro Maru, which is operated for Tohoku Electric Power Co., Inc. This is the first time in Japan that a coal carrier has been used to test biofuel for a domestic power utility company. Mitsubishi Corporation Energy Co., Ltd. in the Keihin area facilitated the supply of biofuel for the vessel.

Shipbuilding: LNG Carrier Diamond Gas Crystal Delivered

On May 31, the liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier Diamond Gas Crystal, was delivered, built to transport LNG from LNG Canada project in British Columbia, as well as from other locations around the world, under an 18-year time-charter contract with Diamond Gas International Pte. Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) who also has a stake in the LNG Canada project.The ship was built at Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries and is owned by NYK, Asia LNG Transport Dua Sdn. Bhd. (ALT Dua), and MC through the joint venture Diamond LNG Shipping 5 Pte. Ltd.

Louisiana LNG Unit Starts Production

Japanese Partners Buy into Sepetiba FPSO

Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) and Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) have purchased minority interests in the lease and operation of a newbuild floating production, storage and offloading unity (FPSO) from majority owner SBM Offshore. FPSO Sepetiba, formerly known as Mero 2, is currently under construction and will be leased for 22.5 years to Petrobras for deployment at the Mero field in the Santos Basin offshore Brazil. MC acquired 20% and NYK acquired 15.5% ownership interest in the companies.
