Naming Ceremony Held for Edda Wind SOV Edda Brint

Offshore wind service company Edda Wind on Friday celebrated the naming ceremony of Edda Brint, its latest service operation vessel (SOV), at Astilleros Balenciaga Shipyard in Zumaia, Spain.Edda is a name tradition that Edda Wind has continued from its founding company Østensjø Rederi, and “Brint” is Danish for Hydrogen. Port of Mukran to Serve as O&M Base for Parkwind's Baltic Sea Wind Farm

Offshore wind developer Parkwind has selected the Port of Mukran as a service base that will serve its Arcadis Ost I wind farm, in the Baltic Sea, offshore Germany.Earlier this week, Parkwind, wind turbine maker Vestas, and construction firm Ems Maritime Offshore (EMO) signed the lease agreements for the O&M building in the Port of Mukran, the easternmost deep water port in Germany.The signing ceremony marked the start of the building development where up to 40 professionals will oversee and service the operations of the 257 MW wind farm Arcadis Ost 1.

Teknotherm Marine to Deliver HVAC for Østensjø's Newbuilds

Norwegian company Teknotherm Marine will provide the Heating, Ventilation & Air-Conditioning (HVAC) and Refrigeration systems for four offshore wind vessels currently being built in Spain.The vessels, to be built by Spanish shipyards Gondán Shipbuilders and Balenciaga Shipyard, have been ordered by owner Edda Wind/Østensjø Rederi. Gondán Shipbuildershas started construction of two 88m CSOVs (Commissioning Service Operation Vessels) for up to 120 persons. The first CSOV is expected for delivery in the first quarter of 2022 and will be chartered by Ocean Breeze for a period of 11 years.

Nexans to Deliver Cables for Giant Offshore Wind Farm in Scotland

French industrial cable supplier Nexans has been awarded a contract by SSE Renewables to deliver cables for the recently sanctioned 1,075 megawatt (MW) Seagreen offshore wind farm project.The contract calls for Nexans to design, manufacture and install the high voltage (HV) onshore and offshore export cables.Construction on the 1,075 megawatt (MW) project, which is located 27km off the coast of Angus, will start next year. When completed in 2022/23, Seagreen 1 will be Scotland's largest wind farm.Nexans' factory in Charleston, South Carolina, will supply the three 65 km offshore export cables.

Final Windfloat Atlantic Floating Wind Turbine Heads Offshore

Belgium: Northwester 2 Offshore Wind Farm Complete

The 219 MW Northwester 2 wind farm has been completed and is now supplying the Belgian grid electricity by all of its 23 fully operational wind turbines producing 9,5 MW each. This wind farm, owned by Parkwind (70%) and Sumitomo (30%) is the first to use the MHI Vestas V164-9.5 MW turbines in commercial operation. Østensjø Wins Long-Term Charters for Offshore Wind Vessel Duo

Østensjø Group's offshore wind business Edda Wind has signed long term time charter deals with MHI Vestas and Ocean Breeze Energy respectively for two of the four offshore wind vessels ordered from Spanish yards. The charter agreement with MHI Vestas for a newbuild Service Operation Vessel (SOV) will start in the second quarter of 2022 and has a firm period of 15 years.The charter agreement with Ocean Breeze will start in the first quarter of 2021 and has a firm period of 11 years.

MHI Vestas Wins First OWF Order in Japan

MHI Vestas Offshore Wind has signed a firm order with Akita Offshore Wind Corporation (AOW) to supply turbines for the Akita Noshiro Offshore Wind Farm (OWF) Project. This is the first firm order in Japan for the Danish wind turbines manufacturer."In a sector first for a utility-scale project in Japan, MHI Vestas Offshore Wind has completed firm and unconditional orders to supply turbines for the Akita and Noshiro offshore wind farms, jointly referred to as the Akita Noshiro Offshore Wind Farm Project," said a press release from the company.The wind farms have an expected combined output of 139 MW.MHI Vestas will supply 33 V117-4.2 MW turbines in total, to be installed with fixed-bottom foundations at both sites.

EDS Wraps Up Horns Rev 3 Work

While it is generally agreed that the nascent offshore wind energy market in the U.S. will be a newbuild market, there is a repair and conversion possibility for some stacked OSVs.Though estimates on the pace of the offshore wind energy market in the U.S. vary widely, the direction is clear: offshore wind will be a huge marketplace for construction and support vessels to be deployed in U.S. waters over the next decade. The starting point for estimated vessel demand is the raft of projects along the U.S. East Coast, and to a lesser extent, in the Pacific waters, now in the pipeline.

HST Takes Delivery of 4th FCS

The UK-based High Speed Transfers (HST) has taken delivery of its fourth fast crew supplier (FCS) 2710, eighteen months after receiving its first, the HST 'Hudson'.HST received HST Hudson, in June 2018, which was followed by HST Sofia in March 2019 and HST Harri in October of the same year.The latest addition is named HST Euan and in mid-January 2020 she was loaded on to a heavy lift vessel at Damen Shipyards Antalya in Turkey bound for Rotterdam.The HST Euan replicates the features and layout of her sister ships. These include capacity for 26 passengers in safety and comfort and the ability to operate in wave heights of more than two meters.

MHI Vestas Offshore Wind Intros Safety’N’Mind

MHI Vestas Offshore Wind has created a digital safety training mobile app developed to streamline safety refresher training courses for offshore wind turbine technicians, which has been accredited by the Global Wind Organization (GWO).Industry-first Safety’N’Mind is designed as a digital, gamified substitute for one theoretical training day. MHI Vestas Installs 1st Turbine at Northwester 2

MHI Vestas Offshore Wind (MVOW) announced that the first turbine has been installed at Northwester 2 in Belgium, the world’s first offshore wind park to feature the record-breaking V164-9.5 MW turbine.The 219 MW project, Northwester 2, is the first offshore wind park in the world to deploy the V164-9.5 MW turbine from MHI Vestas. The project will consist of 23 V164.9-5 MW turbines to spin 50 km off the coast of Ostend in Belgium.Northwester 2 is the fourth collaboration between Parkwind and MHI Vestas in Belgian waters, soon providing a combined output capacity of 765 MW in the country.“The installation of the world’s first commercial wind turbine exceeding 9 MW is an exceptionally proud moment for our company,” said MHI Vestas Chief Operations Officer Flemming Ougaard.

GWS Wins Northwester 2 Turbine Contract

Danish wind turbine installation and service company Global Wind Service (GWS) has secured a contract to support MHI Vestas on the Northwester 2 offshore wind project by providing technicians for the installation of turbines.The deal includes GWS offshore installation technicians supporting the installation of 23 MHI Vestas 164-9.5MW turbines at the site offshore Belgium from November.GWS is also supporting MHI Vestas with pre-assembly activities on Northwester 2 through its base in Vlissingen.“We are grateful to MHI Vestas Offshore for the opportunity to support the first offshore installation of their V164 9.5MW WTGs and we very much look forward to mobilizing our experienced personnel for this important project.
