MAN Okays Total Lubmarine's VLSFO Fuel

Total Lubmarine, part of Total Lubricants,  has received a No Objection Letter (NOL) from leading engine manufacturer MAN Energy Solutions, for the use of Talusia on MAN B&W 2-stroke engines operating on fuels with less than 0.5%S Very Low Sulfur Fuel Oil (VLSFO).Total Lubmarine had developed the set of marine lubricants designed to work with a range of low sulfur fuels, as the new emissions standards designed to curb pollution from ships by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) set to be implemented on January 1, 2020.Talusia Universal was tested on an 8S50MC-C MAN B&W engine operating on VLSFO (max 0.5%S) to  achieve its NOL.

Rotterdam Port Promotes VLSFO

Europe’s largest bunker port Rotterdam said that the new low-sulfur bunker oil VLSFO (Very Low Sulfur Fuel Oil with a maximum 0.5% sulfur) has become extremely popular in the port.Half of all November bunker sales were for VLSFO. This became apparent from the bunkering notifications via the Port of Rotterdam Authority’s TimeToBunker App.As of 1 January 2020, sea-going vessels on the world’s oceans may only use fuel with a sulfur content of no more than 0.5%. The current maximum is 3.5%. High-sulphur fuel will only be permitted on vessels that have scrubbers - an installed filtration system - on board.The TimeToBunker App shows that VLSFO sales have increased dramatically over the past two months: September 1,700 tonnes, October 32,000 tonnes and November 95,000 tonnes.

Neste Offers LSFO in Germany

Finland’s oil refiner Neste Corporation has made low-sulphur fuel oil (LSFO)available in Bremerhaven, Germany in response to the upcoming IMO 2020 global regulation.Neste and the German BMT Bunker und Mineralöltransport GmbH have signed a partner agreement concerning distribution and sales of Neste MarineTM 0.5. This new marine fuel, containing maximum 0.5% sulphur, has been available in Bremerhaven, Germany, since the beginning of November 2019. BMT is a bunkering services company with a long experience in the sales of marine fuels. The company is well-known especially in the North Sea coast in Germany, which is a key logistics channel for global shipping companies.“We are truly delighted that BMT is our marine fuel channel partner in Northwestern Europe.

Sinopec Expands LSFO Production

China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec ), China's first large-scale production of greener low-sulfur marine fuel oil (LSFO), announced the production capability of 10 million and 15 million tons of low-sulfur marine fuel oil in 2020 and 2023.The Beijing-based Chinese oil and gas enterprise said in a press release that by January 1, 2020, Zhoushan and other China major ports will be fully covered with Sinopec product availability, and more than 50 key overseas ports, including Singapore, will be covered with Sinopec supply ability.The commitment will contribute 600,000 tons of sulfur oxide emissions reduction, equivalent to shutting…

NYK Intros Compliant Additive for LSFO

The Japanese Shipping Company Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) have jointly developed a new fuel-oil additive for low-sulphur compliant fuel-oil that meets SOx emission requirements.Yunic 800VLS (patent pending) is Japan’s first additive for very low sulfur fuel oil, or VLSFO. The additive improves safety by helping to avoid troubles that may be caused by certain contents of VLSFO.A global sulfur cap will enter into force on January 1, 2020, and one way ships can meet the requirement is by using VLSFO (sulfur content below 0.5%). COSCO Signs LSFO Supply Deal with Petro China
