YSA Design Forms New Sustainability Division

Viking Grace Returns to Service Following Refit

The 10-year-old Viking Grace returned to operate between Turku and Stockholm on February 12 as a better and climate-smarter version of itself. During its three-week visit to the dock, new technology to reduce fuel consumption was installed and the interior refurbished. Carnival's Mardi Gras Flagged in Panama

Carnival bought their first cruise ship Mardi Gras in the 1970’s, nearly 50 years ago, and registered her under the Panama flag, now the new Mardi Gras will keep the tradition of flying the Panama flag.In a ceremony at the Meyer Turku shipyard, The Mardi Gras, left the dry dock to be positioned in the water en-route to her new location to finalize its interior and exterior outfitting.With a capacity for 5,282 passengers, Mardi Gras marks a milestone for both Carnival and the Panama Registry.

SMS Group Completes Refit for Holland America

The SMS Group has completed two pieces of major interior outfit work for Holland America Line in the Caribbean and Canada.This division is led by industry veteran Dan Lockyer. In respect to the recent wins Dan said: “We completed these first two, major projects, on time and on budget. “The Noordam refit, undertaken in the Seaspan yard in Victoria, Canada, We had over 20 men onsite, with two project managers, and completed works in 742 cabins. “The Volendam was similar, although a slightly smaller project. Fincantieri: New Design for MSC Seashore

A traditional maritime coin ceremony  took place at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, when the keel was laid for MSC Seashore. At the milestone event, MSC Cruises revealed details of the significantly transformed overall design and new features of the ship.MSC Seashore will be the Company’s longest ship – 339 meters – when she enters service in June 2021, the first of two enriched “Seaside Evo” Class ships with the latest available environmental technology, extended public spaces, more cabins and the highest ratio of outdoor space per guest of any ship in the company’s fleet.

Lifeboat Converted Into Unsinkable Solar-Powered Arctic Excursion Boat

The ‘Stodig’ (Norwegian for ‘steady’) was designed by British architects Guylee Simmonds and David Schnabel as a comfortable excursion vessel for Arctic journeys. The solar-powered vessel is able to right itself when capsized and has been dubbed ‘the unsinkable solar lifeboat’.

Solar Solve Wins 40-Ship Order from S.Korea

The UK-based manufacturer of sunscreens for navigation bridge windows scored order for SOLASAFE anti-glare roller sunscreens that will be installed on 40 vessels that are being built in South Korea during 2019.The Type Approved screens will be fitted at the navigation bridge windows to protect ship’s personnel from heat, glare and uv light that is radiated by the sun to create a safer and more comfortable working environment.Included in the order is a series of 14 massive VLCC 320,000 tons deadweight oil tankers that will be 336 mts long, 60mts beam and 29.5mts depth, that are all being constructed by Daewoo Shipbuilders. Stena Installs Japanese Sleeping Pods

European ferry operator Stena Line has installed Japanese sleeping pods on its Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Skåne vessels, operating between Rostock in Germany and Trelleborg in Sweden.Stena Line is the first ferry company to offer its customers Japanese sleeping pods which will be a cost-efficient way to sleep and rest during the crossing.The pods are inspired by Japanese capsule hotels offer 2m2space for one person and can be booked from today and will be available for travellers from April 1st.“We see it as an innovative offer for a cost-conscious target group, which nonetheless values comfort and privacy,” said Martin Wahl, Stena Line’s Travel Commercial Manager for Stena Lines routes between Germany and Sweden.Each berth is equipped with a mattress and bed linen…

MJM Bags Largest-Ever Cruise Contract

Global marine outfitter, MJM Marine is undertaking its biggest-ever project which will see a team of 1,400 people spend more than a month working on a cruise liner at locations including China and the US.The company been appointed as the main outfitting contractor by Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) to completely refurbish the Norwegian Joy, as the company repositions the ship to the West Coast of the United States.In a multi-million dollar project, MJM Marine will play the lead role in the design, manufacture, installation and project management of the interior refit of the cruise liner.Gary Annett, CEO MJM Marine sadi: "Norwegian Joy is MJM Marine’s largest contract to date and will involve a team of 1400 people completing works in over 40 spaces throughout the ship.

Llebroc Honored with Award

Llebroc Industries was recognized with the 2019 Fabrication Excellence Awards for design excellence in marine fabric applications, that took place in January at the 2019 Marine Fabricators Conference, at the Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA.Llebroc Industries received an Award of Excellence and an Award of Distinction Interior for it’s project titled Llebroc Industries – SX Helm Chair with Tidal Wave Technology. Mariner of the Seas Undergoes Major Upgrade

The $120 million upgrade that Royal Caribbean cruise ship Mariner of the Seas received at the Cadiz Navatia shipyard this past June is reportedly the largest ship modernization ever performed and the biggest construction project carried out in Spain At the time of the dry dock, the ship was the largest “hotel” in the country at the time.ALMACO’s contribution to this major revamp included building 38 new panoramic staterooms inside the new aluminum structure on deck 12 forward.

Carnival Plans $200 Mln Cruise Ship Makeover

Carnival Cruise Line will spend nearly $200 million on a major makeover of the 1999-built Carnival Triumph.
