U.S. inland vessel management company Inland Marine Service (IMS) said it has taken on Campbell Transportation Company as its latest client. A fully integrated marine services company, Campbell is currently undergoing an acquisition with American Commercial Barge Line. Once completed, Campbell Transportation will own and/or manage more than 1,100 barges and 50 towboats on the inland waterways, along with four shipyard facilities and a marine construction company, moving over 60 million tons of product annually.

A coalition of maritime business and industry organizations sent a letter to key Members of Congress on Friday, March 24 urging funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) to further support efforts undertaken by the State of Illinois to slow, stop and reverse the migration of Asian carp, an aquatic invasive species, through cost-effective measures. Four corporate professionals have recently joined Inland Marine Service (IMS), announced Dave Hammond, President of Inland Marine Service. The new hires are Kristina Luna, HR Manager; Moses Garza, Tankerman Supervisor; Caleb King, Manager SHEQ/Compliance Director; and Brian Howell, Assistant Port Engineer. Reporting to Jason Adams, Luna will be based out of the Hebron office and will be responsible for all of the company’s human relations needs. Luna has 20 years of experience in employee management, human resources, event planning, marketing, and sales.

Inland Marine Service, Inc. (IMS) has partnered with Shawn Hantz of Third Coast Tankering, LLC to launch a new tankering and plant service division called Inland Marine Tankering, LLC (IMT), announced IMS president, Dave Hammond. IMS is a marine management company employing more than 700 professional mariners annually. Seamen’s Church Institute (SCI) launched an initiative on December 10, 2014 aiming to transform training for America’s inland mariners at its Center for Maritime Education in Paducah, KY. The day before its 15th Annual River Bell Awards ceremony, the Seamen’s Church Institute (SCI) pushed the proverbial boat out on a new era of maritime education. In prior months, SCI had installed new simulators and renovated the hospitality areas at its Center for Maritime Education in Paducah, KY. Øivind Lorentzen, III, CEO of SEACOR Holdings Inc. has been named as the Connecticut Maritime Association (CMA) Commodore for the year 2012. Mr. Lorentzen follows a long succession of influential maritime industry leaders as Commodore. The 2012 Commodore Award will be presented to Mr. Lorentzen on March 21, 2012 at the Gala Dinner marking the conclusion of the annual Connecticut Maritime Association conference and trade exposition, at the Hilton Hotel in Stamford,  Conn. The Award is given each year to a person in the international maritime industry who has contributed to the growth and development of the industry. Lorentzen has served as CEO of SEACOR Holdings Inc. since September 2010.

The Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure conducted an oversight hearing on Mariner Education and Work Force. As explained in the Summary of Subject Matter, the focus of the hearing was growing shortage of mariners and the challenges facing the maritime work force. Subcommittee Chair Elijah Cummings (D-MD) expressed concern that the maritime industry is no longer attractive for new entrants. Committee Chair James Oberstar (D-MN) discussed the importance of timely and relevant training. Inland Marine Service, Hebron, KY has announced the appointment of Captain A. Steven Crowley as Vice President of Operations, where he will oversee management on all line haul boats and harbor boats. Crowley has been the director of Inland Training at the Seaman’s Church Institute for the last several years. Prior to joining Seaman’s Church, he held various staff positions at Ingram Barge Company including assistant vice president of operations, marine superintendent and manager of dry cargo operations. Steve will join the existing management team of Richard Maynard, vice president, Tim Gambrel, operations manager and David Hammond, Sr., executive vice president. He will report directly to David Hammond, Jr., president.
