Dutch maritime contracting company Van Oord is partnering with compatriot company Hendrik Veder Group for the management of heavy lifting equipment for offshore wind turbines.Rotterdam-based company active in steel wire and fibre rope products and services said that under the terms of the two-year agreement, Van Oord will outsource its hoisting and lifting equipment management to the Hendrik Veder Group, with a focus on sustainable lifting.According to Michiel Pieterman, Offshore Wind Operations Manager at Van Oord: "This partnership enables us to use lifting equipment in a sustainable way. Royston Expands UK Engineering Facilities
Royston Diesel Power has doubled the size of its UK engineering facilities to support continuing global growth in its marine engine service business and new technology development. As part of a £500,000 ($676,000) investment program the company has opened an additional 15,000 sq. ft. of engineering workshop premises alongside its existing headquarters on the banks of the River Tyne. As well as increasing the company’s engine repair and maintenance capability, the new center will also provide a focus for a range of other technical support functions.
Oil to be Removed from Sunken Ship off Canary Islands
Ardent, the recent merger of Titan and Svitzer Salvage and Ardentia Marine, a salvage and diving company based in Spain have, been awarded the contract to remove oil from the sunken fishing trawler Oleg Naydenov off the coast of Gran Canarias, Spain. On April 11, the vessel sustained a fire that quickly got out of control. All crew were able to abandon the vessel safely but due to the intensity of the fire, firefighting experts were unable to gain access to board the vessel and she sank approximately 15 nautical miles southwest of Gran Canarias. The vessel now sits upright on the seabed at a depth of 2,700 meters. The Ardent-Ardentia joint venture has already begun putting the necessary resources in place to execute the operational plan in a safe and efficient manner.
Huisman Successfully Delivers 600mt Pedestal Crane
On Tuesday 8 March 2011, Huisman, the Dutch-based specialist in lifting, drilling and subsea solutions, successfully completed the load testing of the new build 600mt Pedestal Crane onboard Wind Turbine Installation Vessel “MPI Resolution”. The load test was the final step before the crane was handed over to the clients Centrica Renewable Energy Ltd and MPI Offshore Limited. The crane was constructed, installed, commissioned and tested at the Huisman facility in Schiedam, The Netherlands with the final load test taking place at the Keppel Verolme yard in Rozenburg, The Netherlands.
