Nano-Biotechnology Fuel Additive Helps Reduce Emissions

As the global shipping industry wrestles with the challenges of meeting its 2050 decarbonization goal, additive manufacturer Fuelre4m aims to enable ship operators to improve efficiency and reduce emissions now.Fuelre4m’s Re4mx products use nano-biotechnology. When added to any liquid fossil fuel (HFO, LSFO, VLSFO or (up to) B30 Biodiesel fuel), the product reforms the fuel molecules, releasing impurities and changing the structure of complex hydrocarbons. The result is a significant increase in the combustion rate, releasing more power from the fuel and producing fewer harmful emissions.
ABS Sees Nuclear as ‘Generational Opportunity’ for US Shipbuilding

New nuclear reactor technology represents a once in a generation opportunity for U.S. industrial policy, as vessels propelled by advanced small modular reactors (SMR) could act as a catalyst for the revitalization of the country’s shipbuilding, according the Chairman and CEO of American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Christopher J. Wiernicki.Wiernicki added he believes the next step is development of a marinized SMR demonstrator.“It is a key transformational technology. It changes the commercial model, the economics of shipping, the operation of the vessels and their design.
Trump Hopes to Ship Alaskan Gas to Asia

When President Donald Trump sat down to lunch with his Japanese counterpart this month, talk turned quickly to how Tokyo could help realize a decades-old proposal to unlock gas in Alaska and ship it to U.S. allies in Asia.Trump and his energy tsar Doug Burgum framed the venture as a way for Japan to replace Middle East energy shipments and address its trade imbalance with the U.S., according to two officials briefed on the closed-door talks.Japanese premier Shigeru Ishiba - eager to ensure a positive first meeting and stave off damaging U.S.
Electric Ferry Ampere Marks 10th Anniversary

Since entering service in 2015, the all-electric ferry MF Ampere has sailed the equivalent of 17 times around the equator on batteries alone.Despite a chorus of critics and skeptics in during the project, a decade later, Ampere continues to showcase the potential of electric technology, tech that has been emulated in ferries globally. It all started with the Ampere and the Norwegian Public Road Administration's decision to require sustainable technology onboard the newbuild destined to transport passengers and vehicles across the Sognefjord on Norway's west coast.
Trump Grants First LNG Export License, Forms US Oil and Gas Energy Council

U.S. President Donald Trump's administration said on Friday it has granted a liquefied natural gas export license to the Commonwealth LNG project in Louisiana, the first approval of LNG exports after former President Joe Biden paused them early last year. The exports are approved to go to markets in Asia and Europe.Energy Secretary Chris Wright, whose agency is responsible for approving the shipments, said exporting U.S. LNG "strengthens the U.S. economy and supports American jobs while bolstering energy security around the world."The U.S.
ABS' Wiernicki: "Nuclear Must Be Part of the Equation"

“New nuclear technology is a global decarbonization solution and a commercial shipping disruptor. There is no net zero by 2050 without nuclear.”That was the view from ABS Chairman and CEO Christopher J. Court Overturns Approval for Two Massive UK North Sea O&G Fields

A Scottish court has invalidated Britain's approvals for two major North Sea oil and gas projects, delivering a significant victory to environmental groups and raising uncertainty over future fossil fuel developments in the UK.The Court of Session in Edinburgh found that the government had unlawfully granted approval for Shell's Jackdaw gas field and Equinor's Rosebank oil and gas field by failing to consider the emissions generated when the extracted fuels are burned—known as downstream emissions.
Ferry Propulsion & The Total Package ... Sustainability, Safety & Siemens Energy

The ocean sector finds itself in a critical moment, especially as the demand to decarbonize grows. Though long-haul is still the biggest emitter in the maritime industry, the need to decarbonize smaller commercial and coastal vessels, including cruise ships, passenger ferries, platform supply vessels (PSVs), offshore service vessels (OSVs), and research ships, is on the rise. Particularly, passenger ferries are pushing into uncharted waters, increasingly being scrutinized by municipal, state, and federal regulators for their environmental impact.
