Malaysia's maritime authorities on Monday said cannon shells believed to be from World War Two have been found on a China-registered bulk carrier ship detained at the weekend for anchoring in its waters without permission.The discovery comes amid reports this month that scavengers have targeted two British World War Two wrecks off the coast of Malaysia - the HMS Prince of Wales and HMS Repulse - which were sunk by Japanese torpedoes in 1941, just three days after the devastating attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii.

An Iranian cargo ship has come under attack in the Red Sea, Al Arabiya TV reported on Tuesday, quoting unnamed sources, and semi-official Iranian news agency Tasnim said the vessel was targeted by a limpet mine.Al Arabiya cited the sources as saying the vessel was attacked off the coast of Eritrea and was affiliated with Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, but provided no evidence to support the assertion.Tasnim identified the ship as the Iran Saviz. “The vessel Iran Saviz has been stationed in the Red Sea for the past few years to support Iranian commandos sent on commercial vessel (antipiracy) escort missions,” it reported.Reuters could not independently verify the report.

An Israeli-owned ship, the MV HELIOS RAY, was hit by an explosion in the Gulf of Oman overnight Thursday and a U.S. defense official said the blast left holes in both sides of the vessel's hull. Japan's Tsuneishi Holdings Corporation said that its  shipbuilding business output was nearly flat with the construction of 45 ships in the fiscal year ending December 2016. However, ship orders declined markedly due to the impact of last-minute orders before environmental regulations went into effect in 2015. "Our shipping business, affected by the dry bulk market downturn, recorded sales of 26.9 billion yen, a YOY decline of 5.7 billion yen (-17%)," says a company statement. The commercial bulk carrier Global Vega rescued seven fishermen in distress on May 21 off the coast of Peru. While Global Vega was sailing from the port of Acajutla, El Salvador, to the port of Callao, Peru, the vessel came upon a fishing boat having engine trouble. Food and fresh water were provided to the fishermen and their boat was moored to Global Vega. Afterward, the fishermen and their boat were safely delivered to the Peruvian Coast Guard. Somali pirates are suspected of hijacking a bulk carrier ship on one of the world's crucial trade routes, Reuters reported. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations piracy watchdog said on its website it had received a report from a vessel under attack and possibly boarded off the coast of war-ravaged Yemen. It gave no further details. However, a security source working at the Puntland Marine Police Force said the vessel was Tuvalu-flagged and is known as OS35. Graeme Gibbon-Brooks, the head of private company Dryad Maritime Intelligence, said industry sources had confirmed the hijacking. "Vessels transiting the area are advised to exercise extreme caution," UKMTO said, without giving more details.

A LPG carrier operated by NYK, Linden Pride, rescued a seafarer from a boat in distress 100 nautical miles off the coast of Nicaragua. While Linden Pride was sailing from Balboa, Panama, to Sendai, Japan on December 4, the ship came upon a disabled boat with one survivor requesting assistance, and immediately initiated the rescue. The rescued sailor was in good health and disembarked from Linden Pride off the coast of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, on December 8 as directed by the U.S. Coast Guard. A capsize bulk carrier ship has run aground in the Suez Canal at 69 kilometers at about 10:30 a.m. local time February 25, and is still grounded on same position, GAC reported, as per information available from the Suez Canal Authority.   According to GAC, the Suez Canal has not closed, but there are some delays on the convoys’ movements and the starting time of the convoys has been amended accordingly, as follows: Northbound convoy started today at 9:45 a.m. local time (first vessel). Southbound convoy started today at 2 a.m. local time and waiting in Great Bitter lakes.   Further traffic delays are expected until the vessel is refloated by Suez Canal Authority tugs.

On July 14, Hermes Leader, a car carrier operated by NYK Line, rescued 336 people in the Mediterranean Sea. Pioneer Marine, a shipowner and drybulk handysize transportation service provider, announced  it has accepted delivery of a 38,464 DWT Green Dolphin eco-design handysize vessel, the M.V. Falcon Bay. The new vessel, which was constructed at Yangzhou Guoyu Shipbuilding Co., Ltd, is Pioneer's first Green Dolphin eco-design handysize vessel. The ship's fuel consumption is about 6 tonnes per day lower than the non-eco design vessels. U.S. dredging services provider Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Corporation announced it was awarded a contract for work on an export terminal under the development of Corpus Christi Liquefaction, LLC (CCL). CCL, a subsidiary of Cheniere Energy, Inc., is developing a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal at a site located on the north shore of Corpus Christi Bay in San Patricio and Nueces Counties, Texas. Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Corporation’s portion of the LNG project involves the dredging and slope protection of two LNG carrier ship berths, dredging of a material offloading and tug mooring basin and expansion of an existing La Quinta Channel turning basin.

Cochin Port, one of the top 12 major ports in the country, has begun coastal transportation of cars, with carrier ship M V Dresden carrying 500 vehicles reached with first consignment. The first call of a Car Carrier ship, M. V. Dresden wad scheduled at Cochin Port  yesterday evening (September 26, 2016). The ship is a foreign carrier of Cyprus registration, which has obtained license for coastal run between the ports in India, and is of 177 m length and 7 m draft. The Car Carrier has the circuit of Ennore-Cochin-Kandla-Cochin-Ennore, connecting the automobile production hubs in Tamil Nadu in the East coast and Gujarat and Haryana in the West of India.
