Canada Maritime Expands Eastern European Network

Canada Maritime has expanded its agency network in Eastern Europe to capitalize on an anticipated increase in trade between North America and the region over the next few years.

Aseco Container Services has been appointed to represent Canada Maritime in three of the most dynamic markets in Eastern Europe, namely Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. A good relationship already exists between the two organisations because Aseco has worked with Canada Maritime in a number of European countries over recent years.

Aseco is also currently the agent for Canada Maritime in Scandinavia with offices throughout the region.

This appointment will add to Canada Maritime’s East European agency network, which already includes Sea Express in Russia and Lema Forwarding in the Ukraine.

Shipments to and from Eastern European markets are transhipped over Hamburg or Antwerp, both of which are served by a fixed-day weekly sailing of Canada Maritime’s three loop Northern Service.

“During 2001, we have seen our main markets in Eastern Europe continue to make good progress at overcoming financial and political difficulties which previously discouraged investment in their economic development,” said Terry Burrows, Senior Vice President CP Ships.

“With several countries in the region preparing for EU membership, the conditions for moving goods is becoming much freer, hence our optimism in the future business opportunities which these markets offer.

“The appointment of Aseco, a well-respected agency company that we know well from working together in the past, will significantly enhance our presence in Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia,” he added.
